Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I know this is probably a topic which has been discussed in the past, but I could really do with some advice as the best way to lose weight. Prob about 2 stone to be happy ish. Being diabetic has anyone had any success stories with Weight Watchers or slimming world etc (ie red days on slimming world reducung the carbs and hence the amount of insulin, or even green days which would require huge amounts of insulin). I seem to be always getting told it's not the amount of insulin you take that puts the weight on you it's the amount of food. I have started to exercise, but would love to hear of success stories for some inspiration.

I found exercise has been the best thing for me in loosing weight, it can take a little while for it to come off though. I took up running a little over a year ago and signed up for various races (including a half marathon which I did in Nov) which kept me motivated and I now really enjoy it.
Earlier this year I also did the 2 week Special K diet, which I know from a health point of view probably isn't too sensible (although if you plan your snacks right it's not too bad), but I found it really useful as a temporary thing to shift those few extra Christmas pounds (and some extra) and as a kick start to getting back to being healthy.

I had very little joy with Weight Watchers and found them quite expensive. The advice given to me was to eat a balanced diet and get plenty of exercise.

Diet is one of those words that has a lot of negative associations. We are all on a diet of some kind or other. The idea is o find an eating plan that will help you lose weight and then an eating plan that will help you maintain that weight.

Don't forget also we all need a treat from time to time too, so the odd chocolate bar or cream cake wont hurt.

I tried weight watchers about 10 years ago and lost 1/2 lb in a month - did not suit me at all.

When I was diagnosed back in April last year, I changed my diet and food intake completely.

I cut out as much sugar as possible, and reduced my Saturated fat in take to next to nothing. I also halved my potion sizes. I get a good balance of fruit and Veg and Carbs every day and so far have lost 3 stone 2lb.

I go to the gym 3 times a week and do a mixture of cardio and weights. So far I have managed to keep the weight of.

I also on the odd occassion will have chocolate - in fact Saturday I had to have some M&M Peanuts 🙂

Ask your GP or Health Care team if they can refer you to a dietician - just to get you started.

I did the weight watchers diet a few years ago but didn't actuallt attend the meetings a friend of mine had gone previously but given up so I had all her 'points' books etc bought myself a points calculator from ebay . anyway after all this I lost 2 stone in 12 months with a little exercise too. I kept to my usual basal dose then adjusted my insulin to whatever I ate salad of chicken salad was great as no insulin needed at all

I need to lose at least another 2 stone - I have lost just over a stone in the last 2 months by just making small tweaks to my diet - smaller portions, no fatty foods and lots of salad and veg and also cutting down on alcohol. Exercise is key too, before the snow I(and my month long cold) was running up to 8 miles a week. To be honest, I haven't actually made that much effort and my current thinking is that if I really put my mind to it I could probably lose another stone in half that time!
