Have to say I prefer just plain old Diet Coke (official addiction) and I go through loads of the stuff (up to 4/5 litres a week 😱) Have to be honest and say I don't like the cherry version but really wish they would bring back the vanilla diet coke mmmmmm

Pepsi Max is my current poison of choice. Also, I don't like aspartame simply because its name is ugly. Sounds too chemically to me!

Andy :D

I wish that Pepsi would bring out Lime Pepsi Max permanently, instead of giving it to us for a month or so every couple of years (under a different name every time, most recently Citrus Freeze) as they do.

I've tried ordinary Pepsi Max with Tesco Lime Juice Cordial (itself lovely stuff, and I think sugar-free) but it isn't quite the same.

OH and Carol drink Tesco lime. It is indeed no added sugar.

I love cherry coke, diet or normal version.

Oh Robert I bought 4 bottles of that stuff to make sure it lasted me a month or so :D

I'm so glad Robert posted the de-bunk on Aspartame, otherwise I'd have had to look it up, cos I knew it was a load of old rubbish.

If anyone needs further confirmation, Alan Shanley can always quote all the right sources when he explains it; is it on his Blog site somewhere?

Now can anyone explain to me why, whenever I drink Pepsi Max - my blood sugar zooms into the outer stratosphere? It's utterly mad, but it always happens!

There is a suggestion that the sweeteners in diet versions of sodas such as aspartame are not good for us. Some researchers are for and some against. It is also said that the sweeteners increase our hunger as would normal sugars.
The other worry is that the chemicals in them leech calcium from our bones.

It's like most things so moderation is the key.

so, it's like most things then!

Anyone remember tab clear? revolting stuff!

I need to clarify.
If you eat a lb of cheese per day then there will be possible problems for you. If you drink 12 cans of cherry coke a day then there will be possible problems for you.

Research has different outcomes and so there are for and against.
This is quite a good cartoon explaining research.

That reminds me of a friend telling me I shouldn't give Carol sugar free/no added sugar squash, because of Aspartame. I should give Carol water to drink, since she can't have the full sugar version. This upset me greatly and I told her that I'm denying Carol enough things because of D!!!

A few years later she took a course where they included D. She apologised and said that she didn't realise how much work went into D.

Does caffeine stimulate the liver to release glucose ? A bit. Maybe. Mmmm.

I rarely have it but when I do, I go a bit hyper. Which is, I think, the intended effect. But I don't think it affects my BGs.
