Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I picked up a magazine while shopping. On the cover it claims you can slash your risk of diabetes in 2 weeks. It says that if you are overweight and suffer with type 2 diabetes 'our plan is likely to be perfect for you'. One of the breakfasts it then suggests is 2 Weetabix, a sliced banana and a grated apple - to me that seems rather high carb
It does, however, go on to tell people to find out more by accessing Diabetes.org.uk

Sounds like a lot of hogwash to me!

Depends what that person had for their breakfast before I suppose! LOL

When our grandson was in his late teens he'd happily eat a bowl of cereal any time. However when I say his cereal dish was one of his mom's Pyrex mixing bowls, you'll see what I mean. To be fair he is a very long person - size 11 shoes when he was 12, and finished shooting skyward at about 6ft 4, played very regular rugby and cricket from the age of c 13 for the adult sides …… overweight only in the summer every year growing up, prior to his next growth spurt and inch or two upwards just after they went back to school in September.

So the brekkie described would probably suit him fine …..

2 weetabix & 125ml of semi skimmed milk is over 31 g carbs.. so not a great start to any day for any type 2, or maybe even type 1..
Without the banana & apple etc..
I learned from here not to eat 2 weetabix for brekkie, and I thought I was being good..

Most of the recipes or advice I have seen in Mags and books for diabetes are absurd. I feel sorry for those that read them not knowing their diabetes may get worse.

Slash the risk. More like increase the risk. What a joke. I noticed a letter in Saga the other day where a lady said she had been told by her GP to cut down on pasta, rice, potatoes and bread and it had helped her blood sugars. Maybe the tide is turning a bit and some people are catching on.
