Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Just a quick hello, found out yesterday morning I have type 2 diabetes, bit of a shock (but then my mom and dad got it later in life too), still trying to get my head around what it all means. I have an appt with a nurse in a couple of weeks. I will be asking mom and dad for help I'm sure, until I know and understand more - all very scary :-(

Thanks Rainey

ps is there a closed group on Facebook that people use too?

Hi Lorraine
Warm welcome to the forum.

Hi Lorraine, welcome....
Yup, DX can be a shock and scary at first, but you have come to a great place for help & support

Hi Lorraine & another warm welcome to the forum. Scary? Yes very much so.. I felt the same way too. It has taken me a while to come to terms with 'D'. Lots of us here were pretty shaken too when initially diagnosed so you're not alone in thinking that. You'll receive lots of help, support & advice here. Please don't be afraid to ask questions. We all help each other on this forum. Take care

Hi Lorraine, Welcome.

Hello and welcome. 🙂 It is a shock isn't it? I'm still in denial. :(

Welcome.🙂

Welcome Rainey. Yes it is a bit scarey and confusing at first, but you have got your mom and dad to support you based on their own knowledge and experiences. Once you've got over the inital learning curve you should find that you managing your diabetes isn't too hard and very much preferable to letting diabetes manage you. You'll find plenty of support here and elsewhere on the internet. But for a good book on the subject (you don't need a computer and can read it in bed!!) I found that Reverse Your Diabetes by Doctor David Cavan an invaluable primer on the subject. The first chapter - Don't worry, take control says it all!
