havent a clue what to expect. Dont get to see the nurse for 2 weeks. Had to start metformin straight away. Any advice on what to expect in the near future.

Welcome.
Well what happens varies around the country and from surgery to surgery in some areas. You should be given an eye and foot check at some point.

Hi Bobby...so sorry to hear you just been given medication and have to wait two weeks to see the nurse after your diagnosis...have you been given any information about your condition...diet...activity...or how to reduce your Blood Glucose?...do you know what your BG levels are...although disappointing to hear another type 2 has been 'left to get on with it'...not surprised...I had a very similar start...basically you need to reduce your Blood glucose levels...reduce your carbohydrate intake...avoid foods such as potatoes...rice...pasta...white bread...starchy vegetables...anything high in carbs...carbs will convert to sugar and this is what you need to reduce...you've come to the right place for advice and support...ask whatever questions you need to...others will no doubt be along soon with more advice...I was diagnosed last year in July...knew nothing...given little advice...the first 5/6 weeks were so difficult...then I began to read...found this forum...started to test my blood (which sounds daunting but is simple)...increased my activity...now I manage my diabetes reasonably well...tell us a little about how you were diagnosed...might help other members to tailor their advice/suggestions to you.

Welcome to the forum, I'm fairly new (to D and to this forum).

I feel quite lucky, my doctors (well the DN) has been excellent, I'm on weekly appointments with her at the moment.

One thing she won't do is give me a BG machine, so I've bought the one off amazon - I would suggest you do that as all the advice on here says how important it is to know what your BG is to be able to control it - and just as important WHAT actually affects your BG

Hello, Bobbie, welcome to the forum. Good advice from Bubbsie regarding reducing carbs and taking control. Have you been offered a meter? Most GPs don't offer them to type 2s so many of us have bought the SD Codefree from Home Health or Amazon. Let us know a bit more about yourself, and ask any questions you like - we aim to please 🙂

Welcome 🙂

Thank you. Still in shock. But trying to get my head around it. So your advise is a help

Hi Bobbie.
I found out yesterday. Started on Metformin straight away after having bloods done on Friday and receiving a call in the middle of the night asking me to go to A&E..I'm totally lost with it all and in a bit of shock! I'm calling my GP tomorrow for an appointment as I didn't get much info when diagnosed (not taking no for an answer). I've spent the day checking this forum and have picked up some good advice

Hi Nico, welcome to the forum. May I ask why you got that phone call, and what treatment you were given in A&E?

Hi Mike.
To be honest I'm not sure why I got the call. Well calls...I woke up at 5am to use the loo (going a lot during the night!) Looked at the time on my phone and had 6 missed calls from the out of hours doc. The first call was at 12.45am! They left messages asking me to call 111 asap as my bloods were tested as abnormal. Very scared and was at the hospital by 5.30am!! Had a urine test..checking ketones which was all ok. Got told I was diabetic and given prescription. Still in shock. I'm assuming they thought it was, serious to call me time during the early hours... I don't know

So they didn't tell you how high your blood glucose was? I agree, you need to see your doctor as soon as possible, and the diabetes nurse if you they have such a thing in your GP practice. Stay in touch with any questions you have, no question is too silly.

No. Just that it was high. Will hopefully find out more tomorrow

Hi Nico.
Like you. I'm confused by it all. I got a diagnosis then I'm told to wait until I see the nurse. Still got 10 days to wait. I also have fatty liver. Which is common with diabetes but no help offered to reverse it. Its true- your the best advocate for yourself. Let me know how you get on my friend 🙂)
