I have told very few people because I simply can't be bothered with any comments.5 years down the road and still only a handful know. Although interestingly more friends have recently been diagnoised Type 2 I might tell them about me one day!!!

Good luck with any decision you make.

Whenever I mention it, the first thing I get asked is, "Oh, do you have to inject insulin?"

So I don't bother now.

i am now AWARE of what i eat and that it has an affect on my health. by eating low carb i'm now in remission from Type 2, but the lack of wholegrain has pushed up my triglycerides.... so on a statin but im in a much better place now
If you have been doing Low Carb long enough to have completed the weight loss phase, then I'm surprised that your Trigs are higher on Low Carb. Mine roughly halved after coming off low fat whole grain, once through the rise while using up the excess body fat; and my HLD roughly doubled. So win-win!

At T2 diagnosis: April 2019 Tot Cholesterol 3.6, HDL 1.2, LDL 1.9, Trig 1.93

After 3 months of Low Carb (but trying Dave Feldman protocol to artificially lower my LDL and towards the end of the weight loss phase in August 2019: Pre-Diabetic Hba1c 45 Tot Chol 5.0, HDL 1.33, LDL 1.97 (with D Feldman Protocol to try not to freak my GP out), Trig 3.74.

May 2020: Pre-Diabetic HbA1c 44 Tot Chol 7.4, HDL 1.42, LDL 4.62 (without D Feldman Protocol), Trig 1.75 - so good control of HbA1C, nice increase in HDL, nice (expected) reduction in Trigs but surprising large increase in LDL. - Perhaps I'm a super-responder.

November 2020 : HbA1C 37 (normal), Tot Chol 7.7 HDL 2.17 LDL 5.02 Trig 1.13 - Now in normal HbA1C range, both HDL and Triglycerides are much improved from original levels.

Then stabilized around those levels.

Hi, I was diagnosed in 2019 with a very high HbA1C reading and was immediately put on Metformin. Back then I tried to change my diet and do a bit more exercise, but my heart wasn’t in it! Then In 2021/22 I got sick on a few occasions, which after the last episode made me come to my senses. I then joined a gym and gradually seriously reduced my carbs. My glucose levels now are not perfect, but they are a whole lot better and I’m fitter and healthier than I’ve been in years; the wake up call was well worth it! At the beginning, when I told family and friends I didn’t get much of a response, or support. Generally people don’t really understand Diabetes unless they have it, which is sad, as out of control glucose levels can make you very sick. Also, I‘m a TOFI (thin on outside and fat on the inside) which confused those close to me even more! A couple of my friends still don’t believe I’m diabetic! Now I very rarely talk to anyone about it apart from my partner, as I don’t feel the need to. I’ve accepted it and just get on with it and enjoy life! However, I do know a couple of people that have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic and I find it concerning that they don’t take this warning seriously!!

I hope my story helps with your decision on whether to tell your family. Good luck for future.
