At risk of diabetes
I was diagnosed three days ago (type 2). The doc says Type 2 can be reversed so I'm going to do everything I can to get back to normal health. I wonder if anyone really has had success in this respect, and what steps they took to achieve this. I have a decent diet and I don't take sugar in tea etc., or put it on cereals and I don't drink fruit juices or soft drinks or indulge in a lot of alcohol (only about 6 units a year) so can't understand why my blood sugar level is so high.
 
Thank you for the info on good things to eat. I'll buy nuts and seeds and try and get to like eggs. Glad you mentioned hard boiled eggs as I can mash them with Hellmann's mayo and have them once a week. Well, it's a start... : o ]

Welcome to the forum, you are in a good place to address your blood glucose level being only at risk. It is not just sugar that is the problem but all carbohydrates so a reduction of those is a good step, things like cereals, potatoes, rice, pasta and some fruits are all high carb foods so reducing the portion size is a good way to help. Have a look at some of the other posts as there are many good suggestions for dietary changes from some of the very helpful and supportive people here.
Just take it one step at a time.
Some idea of what you normally eat will help people to tailor their advice, keeping a food diary for a couple of weeks noting everything you eat and drink will help you see where you could make some changes to lower carb foods.
Ask any questions you have as it can all be very overwhelming and confusing when first diagnosed.
I'm sure a few people will chip in with some links (I'm not sure how to do that) which will be helpful to you.

It might be worth introducing your self in the newbie thread.

With regard to your questions, are you looking at all the carbohydrates that you eat. It is not just sugars that will be converted into glucose. All the carbs will change into glucose once inside you.
It may be the non sugary carbs that are raising your levels. These are such as rice, pasta, potatoes, other root veg. There are carbs hidden in many pre-prepared meals too. Have a think about the portions of these that are included in your diet.

But there are, I'm afraid, significant levels of carbohydrate in cereals - if you are eating any amount of grains or other starchy foods you will see high levels of blood glucose.
