I have just heard that there is going to a pill for type one diabetics instead of taking insulin it is still in the research stage but if successful it should be available soon. If that is the case it will be a massive breakthrough has anyone else heard any more details.

I'm type 2 and on pills. If I have to inject eventully, then so be it, but it is prefrable to take a pill. I hope it is a success.

There's an article about it on the DUK website.

Not too sure about the 'soon' though. I'm also wondering how you would get the required 'strength' of insulin and how would you switch it off if you started going hypo? I'm more confident about the 'Smart Insulin' discussed elsewhere, as that seems to be engineered to respond to blood sugar fluctuations.

I wonder how accurate the dosing would be, I also imagine the absorbtion would be affected by food so action profile might be quite variable. It might be preferable to still inject, e.g. I would prefer to inject rather than the inhaled insulin that they used to make.

Sounds interesting. Will look at the article and keep an eye on it. 🙂

Why you'd take an anti-Insulin pill of course! :D
