Can I ask if anyone gets to see a diabetic nurse during this pandemic? If so how often? And is it important to see one at the beginning of diagnosis? Thanks
I had two phone meetings with my DSN last year.
The process in my area is that I have to make an appointment for a blood test 2 weeks before my DSN meeting. I booked this as usual. My phlebotomist's dart throwing accuracy was not up to remote blood taking so it was not socially distanced.

It's not imperative, as long as you're testing and managing to stay within a healthy range then you should be fine. They generally see you every 3-6 months to do blood tests but obviously that's changed given the circumstances and depends on how unwell you have been.
For things like general questions, you're welcome to use the forum and the helpline as there's a wealth of info available.
If you feel it would be beneficial you could always ask your surgery about availability of appointments?
There is no doubt that Covid19 has put a lot of pressure on GP surgeries, and many of the routine appointments aren’t being offered in the way they normally would - which must make things very difficult for you.
I haven’t had my annual check up, which was due in Jan/Feb
My surgery isn't offering routine appointments but if I need to see the practice nurse I can phone for advice and I have been seen by her as I've needed to, including having bloods drawn.
I have regular calls with the DSN based at the hospital and again if I need to I can call for advice. There may be limited face to face appointments but I can't fault the alternative provision in this climate.
I suppose its reliant on self identification of times I need help and support rather than on screening at set intervals but no complaints from me. In fact I rather prefer it. Probably my inherent need to retain control
I can just ring mine up whenever I need her between planned clinic appointments - but haven't needed her or a consultant on a very regular basis with short intervals between, for a good many years. Mainly rely on my own judgment and the suggestions of internet friends on this and another UK diabetes forum for the last 20+ years.
