Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Was chatting with my better half (i sometimes do that inbetween her nagging lol) and we was on about the cost of dibeties to the NHS. I think the biggest problem is education.
I like many have sought out this forum as i lack the knowledge to deal with the diabites, and have learnt soo very much from it.
But why??? why are we given expensive equipment, and thats it??
For the first time in my 8-9 years my blood sugars are under control since i joined this forum, so why are we not getting the information that we need?
There are still loads of diabetics who have never been on DAFNE, and to me thats crazy, given a pump without proper training.
type 2's are always wanting to know what they can eat, why are we not taught how to deal with i!! whats best to eat!! exercise!! dieting!!!

All this would save millions with less complacations.

Instead they seem to squeeze the budget, when i was first diagnosed, my DSN had time, now they just look rushed of there feet, in and out and thats not good for them, for us and for the NHS.

Ho i know how to rant

Diabetes is a minefield sometimes, especially type 2. It took six years for my doctor to send me on a DESMOND course, and I did the Xpert Diabetes course that my doctor rubbished.

Both courses were full of helpfull reminders, but having used this forum didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

My doctor is a usless waste of space atthe best of times, so no good asking him for help either.

For me personally, before DAFNE, I genuinely think that my clinics didn't know how to manage the condition, at least to the levels I manage it now....

So lack of knowledge on top of inconstant care is a recipe for disaster......

All the staff at my pump clinic, which is separate from my actual clinic, know how to carb count and dose adjust, all of them, the dieticians, all the nurses......

Its educating the staff first that's important......

:D

And a good standard with everyone sing from the same song books. Every professional I see gives different and conflicting advice, it would be nice to have standardised advice.
