Diabetic Consultant review not enough carbs

Hope your adjustments help to keep you safe from DKA, without throwing you too far off track with your BG / HbA1c reduction.

It can be much easier on the body (particularly eyes and nerve endings) to make these adjustments a little more gently as people have said.

One of the mindsets I’ve picked up from T2s over the years is the importance of transitioning to a new ‘way of eating’, rather than attempting a ‘diet’ for a short time with the plan of just going back to eating as they did before once their targets were met. In that sense, finding a menu with a little more flexibility carb-wise may be a help - as you’ll be more able to adjust and adapt your meals to be more sustainable long term 🙂
Thank you very much and yes that is the best approach. Like most people my life is complicated. DKA is serious and I know hitting average 5.7, pre diabetes is making it more likely, is it is not right for me and not sustainable either, started changing from yesterday had a biscuit last night BG was 7.9 this morning though as had more carbs yesterday evening too, but am not worried.

Also asian families, weddings, eating out are all carbs galore, but I have adopted and managed ways around it all.

However, I will be going Pakistan soon for a few weeks and stay in a village, so really really hard plus I do need to enjoy my holiday, so may not have ideal BG levels, issue I have is my HBa1c will be affected.

Also I sometimes work away from home so you can imagine low BG or hypo is not a good place to be with no help around.

Overall I am happy with the lifestyle changes and the key bit is flexibility, come summer I naturally change, so may ditch tge gym and go walking, eat more salads, less stodge etc etc.

Also I am on a mission to look at more carb friendly options so it will trial and error and loads to try out.

Thank you am impressed, also very fortunate my wife is an excellent cook ao will try aubergine with lamb,
Chickpeas I love but spike my BG so yesterday I had homemadevchicken soup with chick peas, my BG was over 10 after 2 hours!

I think if I started cooking, it would be only me eating, my wife and kids will run a mile. Lol
There is time to learn, start with something simple. I suppose it depends on how many chickpeas you have, I will put a can, well drained and rinsed in the curry which does 6 portions.
Never got to grips with Okra always seems to be a slimy texture.

Am good with lentils, shame about chick peas as it so versatile.Miss my potato pakoras.
Okra is hard to cook but very nice as a curry, most people hmmix it with red meat.
Another vegetable which is super good for diabetes ( I heard) especially its juice, is bitter gourd, looks like a crocodile , but my goodness is it is so bitter even when added to mince meat as a curry. Yuck
