Interesting! My boss (Headteacher) made the decision for me a while ago and said that she did not expect me to come in this term when Y10 students and some other members of staff returned. Yesterday, I enquired about the final two days of term, which have now been set aside as INSET and preparing for September - I simply wanted to know what the expectation was for me as my union and NHS are both stating clinically vulnerable teachers should continue working from home until August at the earliest. HR sent me a rather rude email, claiming that other clinically vulnerable teachers were coming in and many have been in without issue for a couple of weeks now, that I would not understand all of the important messages etc if I watched the presentations etc from home and that there were masks available for teachers if they wanted them. From being quite keen to attend, I am now concerned and rather upset by their blase response!

Write back and ask them to explain - as they told you to shield until August why they haven't told you that decision has been over ridden?

Spoke to my line manager (deputy head) who said that the INSET days will see departments working in 'bubbles' so it will be me and the three members of my team in a classroom and all sessions delivered through Zoom, that we will watch on a whiteboard and then complete the activities together. It is not 100+ people sitting in the hall and breaking off into groups (typical INSET) which would have meant social distancing would be nigh on impossible. Therefore, I will not come into contact with anyone else. I have said that I will attend as it sounds safe - why on earth HR couldn't tell me this in the first place goodness knows!!!

... because the twerp who took your call simply hasn't the slightest idea why you might be concerned cos nobody has explained to them that they need to consider other folks' feelings. Or they'd had 27 other people ringing them already and they were fed up to the back teeth being helpful. At work, at times, we'd replace the receiver and ask our next door neighbour what language we'd just been speaking to person on the other end? Just in case we'd been speaking in tongues, judging by their incapacity to understand what we said .....
