Relationship to Diabetes

Hi, I am heading to my first Music festival since being diagnosed with Diabetes in March and so this is all quite new to me, Not my first festival, Just my first one with Diabetes. The organisers have sent me a letter to show to security to allow me to bring food, medication and my testing kit in to the festival. I did see a post on here from back in April about festivals so i know others have been through this. I was wondering if anyone had any tips related to people with Diabetes and 4 day festivals?

Welcome to the forum @davecuk

Great that the festival organisers have provided you with a letter. Hopefully security will be fine in any case, but it is reassuring to know you have paperwork if anyone got uppity!

If you are largely self-catering I think it might be easier, and with a coolbox or similar you could take plenty of salad stuff. The food wagons will be a temptation I’m sure, and many might be a bit carb-heavy, but there is often a wide variety of amazingly tasty street food from all over the world available at these events, so there should be some choices that will suit your dietary approach. It can be worth asking for swaps if you think that would be helpful, “Could I just have an extra scoop of that if you leave out the bun/wrap/flatbread” etc.

At the end of the day, 4 days isn’t going to make a huge difference in the long run, even if you eat things you might usually avoid.

Keep yourself well hydrated, and if you take glucose-lowering meds keep an eye on your levels to keep yourself safe - particularly if you are of the ‘mad dancing’ persuasion! 🙂

Have an amazing time!

Thanks @everydayupsanddowns , I've discovered there will be a CO-OP shop on site and have been told they will have good salad and low carb options.

My blood sugar levels do drop quite badly a couple of hours after drinking alcohol so i'm planning on one fun carby meal in the evening, But I'll just keep a close eye on my numbers for the first day.
