Hi, I am Nazmul, a year 4 student. I study product design at The University of Huddersfield. I'm researching monitoring diabetes as my major project. With permission from the moderator they would value a response from answering a few questions, as you are deemed experts. An information sheet has been attached and the link is below:

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/YDC2MDS

All responses are anonymised and only viewed by course tutors and an external examiner. If you would like a copy of the specific section, you can contact me at U1651610@unimail.hud.ac.uk or my tutor, Caterina Benincasa-Sharman on c.a.benincasa@hud.ac.uk.

I'm a bit far away from Huddersfield to consider taking part unless they're willing to pay travelling expenses at least.

I don't seem to be able to open the participant sheet - it wants me to save it to my computer. Is there a way of seeing it without doing this, please?

I've had an initial look at the questionnaire (don't want to fill it in yet in case the participant sheet says something like I need to travel to Huddersfield, having seen Jenny's post, as I can't travel), and there are a couple of questions which might be a bit difficult for most type 1s -

q 7 "Have you ever had a hypoglycaemic attack? If yes, please specify the symptoms and how you regained your energy"
is going to be very difficult for me because - well, which of the 5000-odd hypoglycaemic attacks I've had would you like me to talk about?! - I can't tell you about all of them!

and q 10 "If you could have a dream product to help you monitor or prevent your diabetes what would it be?"
I'm being picky here because I can probably think of things to monitor it which are better than the ones I have, but it's a bit late to prevent it! A time machine maybe?

Please don't take this as being negative, Nazmul - it's not intended that way - it's just that a couple of things could maybe be better phrased in relation to type 1 in particular and might get you more of the information you actually need for your research. I'm also wondering why you want to know when type 2s were diagnosed but not when type 1s were diagnosed? And I suspect the type 3cs and other types will wonder why the only options you're giving them in q 2 are type 1 or type 2.

I’ve done the survey. Good luck.

All done Nazmul, hope it helps.

The participant sheet suggests a follow up interview in Huddersfield. As a pensioner on a low income i would need an idea about expenses. It could be an idea to do them in batches in areas like London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Exeter?

Hi, this is just an initial online questionnaire, there won't be any need for travelling. It's to help get a basic idea. I will take the question feedback on board, thank you for letting me know.

I tried to fill in questionnaire and cannot fill in any dates etc can select the multiple choice questions such as are you type 1 or type 2 but when it asks when were you diagnosed cannot type into box below.
I’m using an iPad .

I did the questionnaire a few days ago but forgot to comment. There are some questions about finger prick blood tests such as do you have to squeeze your finger, does it hurt, etc. I, like many others, find it quite variable depending on numerous factors. I have two fingers that can be slightly painful but suspect this is due to nerve damage from an old injury. Yes/No does not suffice.

I opted for no for that Q because I have to squeeze less than the times I don't. Anyway it's better to stroke firmly from below the first knuckle than squeeze anyway since squeezing will frequently dilute the blood that's coming out of the hole with interstitial fluid, so you potentially get a false result.
