Diabetes card and bracelet

I asked an ambulance driver what they would do if they found someone out cold, and he said that they would test sugars. That is good enough for me.

Yes, my Dad bought me an sos talisman necklace when I was first diagnosed and I wore it for a couple of years. Was annoying wearing it and I never bothered after that. I've never yet keeled over when out and about. I may have acted oddly - 'funny turns' as my OH and kids call it on plenty of occasions but I'm not sure how anyone else would know it was a hypo or me just being me. :D

It would be interesting to know for those that have got some sort of medic alert device how many times it's been required and accessed by a paramedic etc - not very many I would suspect.

I had a silicone bracelet band thing with my details on a metal bit but I developed an allergy to it. I haven't found one I really like in silver (which I'm not allergic to) so currently don't have any ID. I've got ICE set up on my phone. The company I got the band from were very good though. Universal medical ID, they have a good range of options.

I do wear a wristband when I remember and I hope my pump might be a give away to a paramedic however on the times I've gone unconscious out and about on my own I've always come round in an ambulance after receiving treatment for low blood sugar but I've never remembered to ask how the paramedics established I was diabetic. I hope there won't be a next time to find out!

I was given a card by the hospital when I was diagnosed. I have a purse with a transparent mesh outside compartment, so I keep it in that so it would be the first thing anyone saw if they looked in my pockets. I have added a sticker to it which says "see allergy list before treating" and the allergy list is kept behind it.

No bracelet though. I would have thought the quantity of glucose gel I carry around with me would give any paramedic a good idea about what the problem was if I were unconscious ...

I have a sticker on the back of my pump - the fact i have a pump is a good indication, I reckon, of what the problem is, and the sticker has my name and my husbands phone number.

I have things listed on the Lock screen of my phone.
