Confirmation of type 2 diabetes sent by text last wed. Due to start prediabetes course on Monday. Do you think I should go or let someone else have my place. Totally confused about what to eat instead of fruit. Diets are obsessed with the horrible stuff. Feeling glum.
Welcome @Catmumzer🙂 Why not go and see what the course is like? There’s no need to feel down about diet. You can still have nice food and enjoy your meals.

The dietary information will equally apply to a diabetic or a pre-diabetic so I'd go if I were you.
It's very poor to let you know by text message though. Unless they had tried calling you and hadn't had the call answered. My GP's practice is far from perfect but at least they do call to speak me through any new issues or diagnoses.
There's plenty of great food that you can still eat, you just need a few tweaks.

People often get entirely the wrong impression about what to eat to best manage their condition, yes people need to cut out cakes and biscuits unless they are into baking and can make them from low carb recipes on a website like sugarfreelondoner but making substitutions for some of the high carb foods with more tasty lower carb alternatives still gives plenty of options.
Basing meals on meat, fish, eggs, cheese, dairy, nuts, vegetables and salads and fruit like berries but with much smaller portions of any high carb foods will usually be sufficient to bring blood glucose down to normal levels.
Have a look at this link so you can see what meals you can still have. It is a low carb approach using real foods.

The HbA1c is the blood test which confirms a diagnosis of diabetes or pre diabetes. For example, my latest was 57mmol/mol. The threshold for pre diabetes is 42-47mmol/mol and for diabetes is 48+mmol/mol You are entitled to know your result, as you need to know where you are starting from. So please keep chasing the GP surgery for that information.
I found my diagnosis was a great opportunity to try, and learn to love, new foods. One thing I was told, was that a portion of fruit was 80gm, to have no more than 2 portions of fruit a day, and that berries were the best fruit to have. So I get frozen berries as that way I can measure out my portion size.
Getting more info here in a couple of hours than from months of G.P silence. I have mobility issues and sleep apnea which makes food acquisition, preparation and cooking nigh on impossible. My sleep pattern is very irregular. I eat out occasionally so I stay awake after food. I live alone and don't have any helper.

If you struggle to prepare food then there are plenty of things that you can keep in the fridge or freezer, cooked meats, salads, eggs, cheese, yoghurts or by looking carefully some of the Slimming world or WW meals are lowish carb and can be bulked out with veg or salads.
Many things can be microwaved or popped in a slow cooker to just get on with it. Frozen packs of veg and meat and fruits can be useful as require minimum preparation.
Look at the frozen fish as many varieties of that can just be microwaved. Same with frozen veg, you don’t need to buy the special microwaveable steam bags I just put ordinary frozen veg with a little water in a lidded soup mug to steam them

The book or app Carbs and Cals is useful as it gives carb values for different portions of a whole range of foods so makes it easy to compare but you will only know what portion of something high carb suits YOU is by testing with a home monitor. Everybody is different in what they tolerate, some people can manage 20g of carb if bread but not rice or pasta and for others it will be the other way round, pulses are another thing that affect people differently.
