Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello everyone. I'm new on here and joined the forum to get some support. I've been type 1 for 20 years, have a pump and have really good blood sugar control and nothing physically wrong with me. That all sounds great but I think over time I've become exhausted with this disease. and mentally I'm struggling. I feel frustrated and wound up quite a lot and I know it's affecting my mood. In order to get such good control I have to give this disease so much! Does anyone else experience these feelings?

Well yeah, everyone does from time to time to a greater or lesser extent.

However - what's the alternative? What, you mean there isn't one? Hey Ho .....

There's absolutely no point whatever in wanting to fight it, cos you know you won't win for the simple reason no-one can - so just do NOT waste the energy, is my only advice.

And do what you are doing - come on here and have a bloody good moan about it, get it off yer chest - shrug - and carry on!

Try doing something for charity. It does my head the world of good. Good luck 🙂

Welcome to the forum, general4legs.
Of course I get frustrated. Similar to you, I've been diagnosed about 20 years, and have no complications. Unlike you, I use MDI, not a pump. In fact, I think it's because I don't have a pump constantly attached that I can occasionally forget about my diabetes. For example, last night I drove to orienteering, and, as expected, met a friend and his son there, plus his wife, who'd brought son and compasses, as he'd cycled from work. Unexpectedly, family invited me to tea, so I drove son to house, while father cycled. Mother had already taken work kit home. While we orienteers rehydrated with water and squash, eldest daughter and 2 of her university friends were completing baking session, including using lots of bargain plums in a tray bake. They were also experimenting with cocktails. They had declined orienteering, but after their navigation error - they intended to visit Bronte Parsonage in Haworth, but didn't check where sat nav was taking them, and ended up in Batley and Barnsley, crossing the border into SOUTH Yorkshire! - they would have benefitted from use of paper maps. All of us older adults wondered why they didn't look at road atlas in car. So, a lovely bonus of great banter over a meal of chilli con carne, follwoed by chocolate cke and plum cake - had to to have a small piece of each 🙂

Welcome to the forum, G4L.🙂 Sorry to hear you're struggling. I was in the same situation as you when I found this forum a couple of years ago - just being able to surround myself with people that understand has made the WORLD of difference. So don't be a stranger!😛
