Picked up on this from Twitter today. Lee Ann Thil (blogger and art therapist) has organised the second annual 'Diabetes Art Day' for this year.

Details here: http://www.diabetesmine.com/2011/08/coming-soon-2011-diabetes-art-day.html

Lee Ann launched Diabetes Art Day last year as an online initiative for the Diabetes Online Community to “tell a story about life with diabetes though creative visual expression.” Diabetes Art Day is open to anyone of any age, and you don’t have to have diabetes either. Children, spouses, parents, siblings, or anyone who is affected by diabetes are welcome to participate.

If you’re looking for some ideas, consider these supplies:

- Use old diabetes supplies (test strips, old pump supplies) along with paint or pastels to create an image.

- Create a collage from diabetes magazines, personal photos, and craft items like beads, tissue paper or fabric.

- Explore the kitchen and make artwork out of cake decorating or cookie shapes.

- Get hi-tech and use digital media, like photography and stop-motion animation.

You don't have to consider yourself an artist to take part. Just make/draw/photograph something that says something about your experience of Diabetes and post it here: http://www.diabetesartday.com/diabetes-art-day-2011/

I think I sent in a Diabotic last year! Will try and do something for this year - thanks for the heads-up Mike 🙂

Date is September 1st 2011 🙂

Thanks Mike! Think I may have a picture in mind already 🙂

OOO I love this idea. Will have to get creative 🙂

I had a look at some of last year's stuff - brilliant! Hmmm, might have to get my knitting needles out!

Just giving this a bump as today's the day!

You don't need a blog, Twitter or Facebook to take part. Just upload your picture to www.diabetesartday.com directly 🙂

Do you have a pattern for a pancreas? 🙂

LOL, wouldn't surprise me if there is one on the net somewhere. There used to be a demand for knitted boobs to demonstrate breastfeeding - not sure if the milk tasted like sheep's milk though!! http://www.madeformums.com/baby/woollen-breasts-knitted-for-feeding-practice/7954.html

Wow - would you believe it - someone's beaten us to it Northe: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kirinqueen/414694275/

Guess I'm a bit late to submit anything now - where has the time gone....

Have thought about knitting a case for my kit, pen, glucose tabs etc. etc.

They're brilliant - a lot of talented people out there. Love the woodcut and cartoon, the wreath and the models made with diabetes paraphanelia - noticed 2 bike wheels too! Some very poignant (not sure of spelling) ones too....

did anyone do any of them from here?

Oh I didn'se see yours Becky... That's lovely. Very thought provoking...

As you can see I'm sooooo artistic! 😛

Well done! They're all very different and speak volumes about being diabetic, which to me, they show to be a very individual and yet a communal thing - thanks.

I cheated slightly because I ended up not having time to create a new diabotic, so I entered 'When Dia-nosaurs Ruled the Earth':

Will try harder next year! 🙂

Ha ha, like it! :D
