Still being new to diabetes was just wondering if there are any apps on iPhone anyone uses or recommends thank you mat

Hi Matt

I use Diasend on my PC but I think there is a version for IPads. I use it to download my data from Libre, pump and handset and then share it with Diabetes team before my appointments or if I want some help via email. Much easier that trying to describe my results or typing them in, and saves a lot of time at appointment giving me more time to ask loads of questions and get a lot more support.

The ones that get mentioned fairly frequently seem to be:

Carbs and Cals
MySugr
Diasend
Cook and Count Carbs

And also
LibreLink
(if you are a Libre user)

The trouble with the Libre is last time I looked it only worked with Android phones, and I’m not getting an Android phone just for that.

I received an email from Abbott last week to say there was now an app for iPhone too...haven't had a chance to investigate yet.

I assume DUK stopped the tracker app.

Gosh, so it does. About time too. I’ve just installed it on my phone.🙂 No excuses for forgetting my reader now🙄

Though I can’t use it till I apply a new sensor...

One less thing to carry! I'll try it out with my next sensor too. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the reader.

As long as you have an iPhone 7 (earlier iPhones do not have access to the NFC chip).

I think the sensor needs to be started with the reader and then scanned with the phone app within the first hour.

The official Abbott apps use the same algorithms as the reader as far as I know, so I’d imagine they would be identical.

Third party Android apps use their own conversions of the raw data, so can vary quite a bit I believe.

Yes, they are identical. The difference is that the phone app sends all your anonymised data to Abbott. If you are comfortable with that, then fine.

As does the reader download which produces the additional (and very useful) charts.

No personally identifiable data is sent.

I understand those data have been very useful information in terms of getting Libre onto the NHS tariff list and (theoretically at least!) able to be prescribed. Eg they had not expected the average user to be scanning 16 times a day.

Indeed, Mike. And you were right in saying if you want to use both, when you fire up a sensor with the reader you must use the app within the hour, or the app just tells you “this sensor is being used with another device”.

I’ve got two more days to check this out- looking forward to it🙂

Do you know if there’s a mini ‘sensor-starting’ app for iOS like there was (is?) for Android?

I’d be happy to start with the reader then use phone from there on, but being able to start with phone might be handy for some.
