has anyone ever experienced seizures with HIGH blood sugars? I had rubella encephalitis age 4 and had my first fit for 38 years in dec 2015 when newly diagnosed T2DM. Now controlled both diabetes and seizures but any one else had experience with this?

Hi Victoria. Welcome to the friendliest forum on the planet🙂

I’ve had grand mal fits when very hypo, but never when high. What medication are you on? I ask that because some medications can heighten the tendency to have fits. It must have been a bit disconcerting, to say the least, when that happened. My first two happened in supermarkets, so just a tad embarrassing.

Me too with lows but not highs.
I remember having one in the passenger while dad was driving. It almost frightened him to death. Poor dad.

I’m on Keppra for the seizures and Sukkarto SR (slow release metformin), having switched from ordinary metformin due to the gastric side effects. It’s all under control now and I make sure I have low but not dangerously low sugar before bed and am happy with a CBG of 4mmol as all my seizures have been in my sleep with high sugars. I’d rather wake up with similar levels as I know I will eat breakfast. Just wondered if anyone else had any experience with highs.

Not experience with highs as such, but I had a seizure in July, which led to my diabetes diagnosis. No one has told me the cause of my seizure, nor what it was exactly, they just do not seem to know, even after much prodding and poking. I am making assumptions here, but both my blood pressure and blood sugar were high at the time it seems. Blood pressure critically so, not sure just how high the blood sugar was. No more seizures since then, thankfully.
