Hi I’m Eddie today I received a phone call stating I’ve been diagnosed as being diabete type 2

Hello and welcome to the forum. Were you given your test numbers for Hba1c (glycated haemoglobin) or blood glucose at the time of the blood sample being taken? That helps to refine the advice offered.

Hi Eddie

I hope you find this forum of support useful as a newbie myself, I've gained lots of encouragement, inspiration and advise from members.

It's a shock to the system, being diagnosed but with support we're all in it together.

I assume you had a blood sample taken from your arm and sent to the lab by your surgery and that would be the HbA1C test which is an average of your blood glucose level over approx 3 month period. A diagnosis of diabetes would be given if the level was above 48mmol/mol.
I suggest you ask for the actual number as it gives a starting point for knowing how much you need to do to get your levels down and help people tailor their advice to your situation.
If that is not what was done then it would be the test you need to ask for, I'm not sure what the urine sample would be for unless they were worried about very high levels or infection. But they really should have explained.

Hi @Eddief147 and welcome to the forum.

Diagnosis is a shock at any point and there is a lot to get your head round.
Do ask any questions that arise. There is plenty of experience to tap into on here.

You may also find the Learning Zone (possibly an orange tab at the top of the page or in your menu) a useful resource of information.

Hi Eddie, welcome to the forum.

I hope they're able to give you more details when you go for your check up. Getting your HbA1c numbers is important so you can track your progress.

It's overwhelming to begin with but take it one day at a time. We've got a wealth of info on the site so feel free to take a look around and let us know if you have any questions.
