Hi, help anyone. I am testing out the dexcom g6 before I hassle to change from libre 2. I am t1 for 37 years. My main issue is seeing the results. I use iPhone and have the app on it and all works well. However, I have to open it every time and I thought I would be able to sort a widget to show it on the Home Screen And lock screen so that each time I want to see where I am at I wouldn’t have to unlock my phone and then the app and then see it. However, no widget comes up to do this. Have restarted phone etc and nothing. Is this jus the way it is. Does it work with an Apple Watch on the face (before I lay out more money again)?

If I have to open the phone and then app every time I don’t see the point in swapping from libre, the whole idea was to see it easily.

the only thing I would say is that I am running it side by side with libre and it is way more accurate to an actual bg test, so that might swing it anyway. ( I saw the hospital diabetic nurse last week and they basically said you have had it getting a dexcom and was dismissive over my concerns of the libre lagging and being a fair bit out..actually telling me to contact them and ask them why).

anyone using this? I would be appreciative of anything you can help me with.

Cheers.

I only trialled the Dexcom for a couple of sensors but I did not find a way to put the readings on the Home Screen.
I use an Android phone and phone xDrip+ (I think xDrip4iOS is the equivalent for Apple) was really helpful when I used Libre. It also works with Dexcom (I think it was originally designed for Dexcom as their app is not supported on many phones). There are a few advantages of xDrip - you can calibrate the sensor; you can convert Libre 2 into a CGM do you do not need to scan and you can add a widget to the home screen and Lock Screen. The down sides are it is not officially supported, you cannot share your numbers with your DSN and it is written by techies for techies so the UI is not overly intuitive and it has little in the way of a manual.
If you want to try it, I would recommend the Facebook group.

My reason for changing from Libre (which is funded by the NHS) is to use the CGM that communicates with my pump and auto suspends when my levels are getting low. Unfortunately, this is self funded.

You should go back to the nhs and complain. I have been told if you are on a pump you are more likely to get it. cgm has been authorised for all type 1’s now. If they refuse, you can try to apply for individual funding to the health board and from what I can see, they would have difficulty in refusing. If you search on the main site it gives you examples on how to do it. i am just holding fire to see if I like dexcom more before I start an argument with them myself!

anyone else had better luck with the apps or the applewatch?

I have sugar mate as a widget where I swipe right on the Home Screen instead of having to open the phone. It’s also useful for alerts as you can link a phone number to it so you get a robo call for hypos at certain times of day if you want them (we have it set for night times)

I will look at that. Do you still use the dexcom app or do you only use this one now…..in other words does it work on its own with alerts and alarms?

I have been told the only way to get a CGM apart from Libre is to get pregnant. This is very unlikely to happen and seems like a temporary solution although I didn’t ask what would happen after I gave birth.
This would only give me access to Dexcom which does not work with my pump.
Looking at the NICE approved CGMs, mine is not included.

Typical. I was told only way to get Dexcom was to lose 30 odd years off my age and have a pump.
Have you tried calling diabetes uk helpline. They are excellent and will give you some advice. It may be that you can still apply for the Individual Funding. It’s got to be worth a try as they can only say no, which is where you are at now.
I suspect I will be sicking with Dexcom but will have to pay for it myself. The new one, G7 comes out later this year and I doubt that will be on the NHS. What annoys me is that the libre is only slightly cheaper than the cgm anyway.
Good Luck with everything.

I have the Dexcom on the NHS 🙂

I mostly use the dexcom app (the follow one because it’s my kid with the dexcom) but it depends what I’m looking for. Sugar mate has more interpretation of the data so is useful for lots of things but we mostly have it for the phone alerts because it used to be impossible to get dexcom alerts on iPhone when in do not disturb mode so we needed night time alarms somehow.

Dexcom One should be available for prescription by GPs, Dexcom 6 ought to be available from clinics if you can persuade them that they ought to offer it (which should be a lot less hard than it once was, but may not be that easy). If they won't offer it I think it's worth challenging them if you think you've got a good case (if you know it works best for you, or if it works with your pump); the NICE guidance is clear that the intent is that people with Type 1 ought to be offered some suitable CGM, and sometimes "suitable" will mean Dexcom G6.
The new one, G7 comes out later this year and I doubt that will be on the NHS.
I expect it will be, but I'd expect it to be offered similarly to the G6 (so by clinics only). (I expect Libre 3 to be reclassified at some point so it can be prescribed by GPs because it just looks like it's in the wrong place now that 3 other rtCGMs are available for prescription.)

I have been using the dexcom and libre and doing bg tests all day. It has confirmed my suspicions that the libre is miles out. I had a reading of 15 on libre at one point and my bg was 11.5 (Cake to blame) The dexcom has been less than one out all day.
I have downloaded and played around with the sugar mate app and it’s done what the dexcom app should. I even have it working on Apple play so I can see my blood sugars on my car screen now.
I am going to play hell with the hospital as they have been so dismissive of my concerns about this and said no chance of them giving dexcom on prescription even though it’s not much more expensive than the libre.
Anyone else had issues with libre being so far out a lot? Also, anyone been able to get the cgm after being told no chance?
Thanks everyone by the way. It’s my first time on here. I’ve had type 1 for 37 years and had very few issues and never really asked much of the nhs ….. apart from supplying me drugs to keep me alive that is! I just feel there are a lot of good people there, but also a lot who are dismissive.

You will prob find Dexcom can be out by a fair wack if your blood sugars are on the high side as well as on the low side. I would never trust it to make a clinical decision ie bolus.
I was told repeatedly no to the CGM so just pointed team in the direction of the disability discrimination act 2010 🙂

Ah, the choice of last resort. Forgot about that one.
Comes in handy at times.
I always new the libre would be out if my sugars were higher. Eg. If I was 12 then libre could be 15 so I expect the same on dexcom. What I didn’t realise was that sometime when I am 9 it could say 12!
Today has been a bit of an eye opener.

Hello @Popglobe2022,
Hi, help anyone. I am testing out the dexcom g6 before I hassle to change from libre 2. I am t1 for 37 years.
You have way more experience than myself, so there is probably not too much I can tell you. But I live in Bucks and happen to receive my Specialist D support from the Churchill hospital in Oxford. At a recent review my Endo confirmed that he would support a change from Libre 2 (which I depend upon, but my body doesn't like too much and I have a 50% fail rate) BUT to Dexcom 1, not 6. The Dexcom 1 is more or less rhe same cost to the NHS; the 6 isn't - apparently.
I haven't made the change yet, because my phone is not compatible with Dex 1, but I think I've now found an affordable solution.
My main issue is seeing the results.
I am on android phone and I had that linked to the Diabox app, which was brilliant, relaying to my Samsung watch. Alas some gremlin has stopped Diabox and I'm not tech enough to find and fix this. Most frustrating - I tasted true CGM for 6 months and everything after that is noticeably less, made worse by the unreliability I experience with Libre 2.

@Proud to be erratic are you aware the Dexcom ONE has no public API (programmable interface). This means it is not possible to integrate it with anything except the Dexcom app. You cannot use third party software like Diabox or xDrip or link it to a phone or pump.

Thank you I am not aware of this. I wasn't necessarily expecting to use 3rd party software, but admit I'm not clear how good or friendly the Dexcom 1 app is.

I tried to install the Dexcom 1 app and got told my phone was incompatible. Dexcom website shows many android phones that are compatible, so I was wrestling with funding an extra 2nd hand compatible phone. Then @Lucyr pointed out that there was a reader for Dexcom 1 and that might suit me very well, but need to verify that with due diligence.

However, I've been very busy with a raft of matters arising from our house sale and the new purchase - so everything else has had to take 2nd place. Moving was a snap decision after finding a suitable property in an area we know fairly well, been keen on for over 10 years and viewed many unsuitable properties in the past. House admin is, I think, now almost finished; bit more paperwork tomorrow and confirm a point on Mon am, then I can return to looking further into Dexcom 1 challenges. Meanwhile my repeat prescription for Libre arrived, so I muddle on with Libre for now. My 50% fail rate continued last month!

Right now I'm busier than when I was working! But thanks.

Good luck with the house. That’s enough stress to play with your sugars on its own.
I notice you are on tresiba and novorapid. I have been on tresiba and Fiasp but coming off Fiasp as when my sugars go high it can be like injecting water and just doesn’t work. I am going back to novorapid next week. I used to use it with Lantus, but the Lantus didn’t work all day. Also was losing the warning signals. Will be interesting to see how the mix of tresiba and novorapid works.
Have a good night.
