we are very lucky

we book in at reception, but it is the doctor who comes into reception to call you into the consulting room

Also something I think is great, if you know your GP, you can get a telephone consult with doctor.

Thats the same for me Hazel.
Only downside for me of having a good GP who really listens - is she is always running an hour behind.

I was quite surprised though that hubby had to see her recently, he goes about once every 20 years, but this was his second visit in a year.

At the end she told him off and said she needs to see him more regularly due to a problem as when he finally does go he takes up too much time.

We did laugh when we came out as it was actually our very friendly GP catching up with him that took the time - they belong to the same club.

Poor hubby actually didn't get a word in edgeways to be fair! 🙂

Well our docs make their own announcements from their own offices and most of them speak clearly so that's fine. However 2 of them are part-time now towards retirement and they've been 'trying out' various docs who appear for 6 months then disappear and some of them you have difficulty telling what they are saying when you are in there, let alone over the intercom!

The announcement is always eg 'Mrs Joan Bloggs to Dr Smith in Consulting Room 2please, Mrs Joan Bloggs to Room 2' If nothing happens they repeat that and if nothing happens still they either come out to the waiting room and call again or ring through and the receptionist bellows LOL

What good any of that does if you do happen to be profoundly deaf, I have absolutely no idea.

I mean I worked with a girl who was married to a chap whose dad was Polish. The nearest you could get bearing in mind the lack of vowels, was, honestly 'Crazy chick' whereas their surname was actually pronounced 'Cry check'. She used to make appointments for people at work and ask to be called back when Mr Client wasn't available, so Mr Client would ring back and ask for 'Sue, Errrr ....' LOL

I had to go to health centre on Xmas eve & yes I was a cougher.

Tried to sit by myself & coughed I thought correctly into a hanky so as not so spread my Xmas wishes around.

Mind you the number there who didn't bother & just coughed willy/nilly. I thought they were perhaps having a competition. I'm sicker than you because my cough is noisier!

Good news the cough going around can last from 2 to 6 weeks. 2 down possibly 4 more to go!

Screen??? You have a screen??? Very 21st century! We still have a cranky old receptionist calling out your name, and woe betide you if you miss it. Never repeated!

At my surgery the GP comes out and whispers your name ...

My Surgery has a screen which you press to enter your details on arival.
Large airy waiting room with loads of kids toys including a play house. When your turn comes to see your own GP, name apears on a large TV screen twice. Buzzer also goes off to wake the patients up. TV screen shows photo's of the area plus lots of health information.
IF any Dr is running late one of the receptionists comes into the waiting room and tells everyone Dr so and so is running XX mins late.
Receptionists are also friendly with a good sense of humour.
Same day apts can be had as well. Apts can be booked on line and repeat prescriptions can be done on line as well.
