I've had depression long-term and have been on a variety of medication and had several short/medium-term courses of counselling. Most of the time things have improved, but this last week I've been having a setback. A lot of it is related to my chronic pain problems and some things which I feel awkward about sharing at present. I need to really plan small amounts of housework at a time.

The annoyance is because I had my first checkup with the nurse today - fixed up by my GP, not her. Hence I arrived and she looked for the results of my blood tests - which I was not told should have been arranged a week before, and asked for my urine specimen - which had not been requested. Apparently she normally sends the requests out with an explanatory letter, which I was not given. I now can't get an appointment for fasting cholesterol etc. until 8th March!

Its always frustrating when we go to an appointment, only to find the appointment is not what we were expecting.

Around here tehre are hospitals and walk in centres that have drop in blood test facilty. Your Dr nurse gives you a form and you go to which ever is most convenient to you. Maybe you could see if anything like this exists near you. If such a place exists it would reduce your waiting time.

It is annoying when the right and left hand don't communicate properly. Especially when it causes you to waste your time.

I would imagine it's these small things that add up when you're trying to tackle depression.

I hope Margie's suggestion is of use. Sadly, we don't have anything as civilised in these parts ! :D

I'm not desperate about my cholesterol, and if Dr T agrees to a Rheumatoid Factor test it can at least be done at the same time.

I've written and suggested that if the GP arranges these appointments, he hands us a copy of the letter.
