I have had lot of trouble with gum disease and I think I have finally got it under control having lost about half my teeth. I have now found a great private dentist as I hated the NHS one. I still have to go every three months for a scale and polish and check up every six months but she charges me only a little more then the NHS one. I think it's ?40 for a scale and polish and ?35 for a check up, but well worth it to be free of pain.:D (wish my teeth looked like that!)

There ARE certain policies you can take out. Hubby and I pay ?12.50 a month which covers us for numerous private procedures + 4 hygiene visits each a year.

I was advised by my doctor to tell the dentist that I have diabetes. When I told him he said that diabetics are more susceptible to gum disease and said I should have a scale and polish every three months as a preventative measure. I do this now. He gives me appointments that are after work time and free Sensodyne toothpaste. So that suits me. I hate going to the dentist too but I don't want any more trouble. 🙂

I pay into a monthly plan which covers my 6 monthly checks any general work needed.

When I told them I had been diagnosed with diabetes she merely said it is as you were, but they keep a close eye on any possible infections/abcess etc as more susceptable for them. Each time I go she asks if any meds have been changed.

This proved true a couple pf Christmas's ago as due to some really bad toothache I went & was put straight onto a course of anti-biotics before they took the remains of that tooth out as it had cracked & not enough of it left to repair (on Christmas eve). Seemed to do the trick as no problems since. Just left with a bit of a gap at the back of my mouth.

At last check she told me it was up to me if I wanted to see the hygenist as I hadn't seen her for a number of years, thankfully my teeth seem Ok so I keep to 6 months & only go anyother time if I have a problem. She wished all her clients looked after thier teeth so well, then again how would she make her living if we did!

It seems most are 6 months.

Thanks guys for letting me know how often your dentists see you

Right off to catch 2 buses to my new dentist
