Relationship to Diabetes

I got a deep fat fryer for Christmas (which I asked for before I was diagnosed and there wasn't time to inform of the changes as I was only diagnosed a few weeks ago), is there any diabetic-friendly things I can cook in it? Is deep-fried food any worse for diabetics, sugar/spiking wise?

A small portion of chips/fries shouldn't be too bad in moderation I would think/hope.

Surely there's some more stuff I can do with it.

And before anyone comments about exchanging it, I am unable to do that as it was a present and the gifter doesn't have a receipt as it was bought online.

It depends on how you view fats and cholesterol.
You're in for some very interesting replies.
I should imagine the fat with dampen down the spike, but i can't imagine deep fried foods are too good for either t1 or t2....
But then again, no amount of avocados will taste as good as a plate of chips..mind you, i have discovered oven baked pumpkin chips...they are lovelly anf fairly low in carbs too

I would rule out the deep fried mars bars! Difficult one, I suppose you could do lightly battered fish and eat the inside with just a little of the batter, small portion of chips, sweet potato maybe? It all depends on what you can tolerate I guess but would assume most things that go in a deep fat fryer are carb heavy. Crisp and dry oil would probably be best choice.

Best to experiment then see how you bg reacts to food, as for fried food being bad, nah had homemade chips last night in deep fat fryer with leftover meats coleslaw & mayo, also like fried eggs bacon & few more foods fried, its all about balance.

It is not necessarily the fact they are fried but many of the things you would cook in that way are high carb foods as they are potatoes or coated in batter or breadcrumbs.

True.

Also the food absorbs fat and can make it highly calorific (Especially with breadcrumbs) - plus the oil may break down into stuff you wouldn't really don't want to eat. (And may be high in trans fats anyway.)
