DBG's running log

I have a Garmin Lily 2, and not had any problems today.
It didn't affect all watches and even those that did have issues, it only happened if you started a GPS activity.

Was a bit of a pain but at least it was quickly fixed.

Tempo run tonight. 10 mins warm up, 15 mins at tempo pace (5.25min/km) and 10 mins warm down.

One thing I've learned about training for marathons is that it involves an awful lot of running! The good news is that Garmin predicts my marathon time to be 4hr37 at the moment and I know from experience I usually run a good 20mins fastest than that predicted time so I'm on target for the sub 4hr.

Key stats

Time - 35mins
Distance - 5.93km
Start BG - 7.9
End BG - 8.7
Fuel - 27g at the start

So January finished on 83km in total after a short run on the 31st. I was aiming for 100km+ however I've also not done a huge amount of training since the Loch Ness Marathon so was mindful not to go completely mad.

Last night was a 48min base run. Wasn't really in the mood but fought the temptation of staying in a nice warm house and got it done.

End BG was a little on the low side last night, need to be careful with fuelling. Should have had a gel after 10mins then another at 30mins I think

Key stats

Time - 48mins
Distance - 7.6km
Start BG - 10.4
End BG - 5
Fuel - 27g carb at 20mins

Jeez, I wish I could run, but did do my first long walk yesterday since new year :D

A slow mile is the same distance as a quick mile and burns a similar amount of calories.

I was a good runner when I was younger, had I trained seriously I could have been very good. Then didn't run for many many years and got back into it properly in 2020.

Since then I've been slowly getting more and more back into it and want to get an ultra under my belt either this year or next.

There's a couple of half marathons in the spring I want to enter however there is mutterings that they're going to try me on the T2 remission pathway and of course I'll not really be able to train nevermind run a respectable HM time on 800cal a day.

So, just waiting to see what happens with those before I pay any money for entry etc

Bit of a kick at the start of today's run.

One thing I love about Sheffield is that, except for very flat runs, it's easy to get as much or as little climbing in as you want.

This is from my doorstep. Head another way and it's up but gentle and head yet another it's down for 1km or so then reasonably flat

A mix of trail and road today. Perfect ground for my sandals which work as well on trails as they do on tarmac.

Key stats

Distance - 7.87km
Start BG - 9
End BG - 7.6
Fuel - 47g - 5g at start, 27g at 10min, 15g at 40min

Just a 30 min base run tonight and back with the Libre. It really does make a difference to how effectively I feel I can train and fuel.

Set of with quite a high BG - 10.1 and either have usually had some carbs after 10 mins instead of at the start with a number like that.

However after 10 mins my BG had actually gone up to a little over 12 so managed the whole run without any fuel.

Then when I got home it started dropping like a stone so I actually delayed taking my bolus until I had started eating.

Oh and someone asked for energy gel recommendations. These are my favourite. Decathlon own fruit jellies and date bars. Deliciously, natural(ish) and very gentle on my stomach.

Screenshot of Libre graph during and just after run for reference.

Key stats

Time - 30mins
Distance - 4.72km
Start BG - 10.1
End BG - 7.9 (then plunged rapidly over the next 10 mins)
Fuel - nil

Was meant to be sprint intervals again tonight but on the second sprint I felt my hamstring ping again and thought better of it so ran at a very steady pace just to see how it felt.

After a few Kms it had settled down so I did a couple of quick Kms (4min40 pace) then slowed down again a bit for the climb back to to my house.

Felt good apart from the muscle twinge and I feel much fitter than I did a couple of months ago. Fitter even than before my last marathon.

Libre makes training so much easier in terms of fuelling too, very pleased I've got it at least for now. If I have to stay MDI I'm going to fight for it tooth and nail!

Key stats

Time - 44mins
Distance - 7.12km
Start BG - 5.4
End BG - 8.9
Fuel 25g at start and 20g at 15 mins

Anaerobic intervals tonight - 7x 1 minute splits at 4.45 pace with a good warm up and cool down.

Forgot to take my insulin to work though and got my fueling a little wrong so been running a bit high. Perhaps shouldn't have had the energy bar at 15 mins. Ah well. It's coming under control now.

Long run tomorrow and base run on Sunday too which will put me on 50km or so for the month already.

Key stats

Time - 50mins45
Distance - 8km
Start BG - 6.4
End BG - 15.2(!)
Fuel - 31g at start then 20g at 15 mins

Nice steady longish run today and fuelled perfectly for it as well.

Still loving the sandals too. Nearly 500km on them now and winter, summer, trails, road, 5km or marathon - they're all I wear. Very some odd looks and lots of comments but hey.

Didn't fancy the run at first though - weather not the best however it's these runs that will give me the time come the autumn. Get a really good base set up and it'll pay hugely in the coming months

Key stats

Time - 1hr4
Distance - 10.17km
Start BG - 7.6
End BG 6.6
Fuel - 5g at start then 20g at 20min and 45min

My run was a very specific 43mins today. Garmin does that, never rounds up or down to the nearest 5mins.

And with that I'm on 52.1km for the month already and very nearly 140km for the year.

Today's piece of essential if miscellaneous running gear. A really nice running cap. Bought this at the Loch Ness and worn it just about every run since. Very comfy, keeps my head at a nice even temperature and gets stop sweat dripping in my eyes.

Key stats

Time - 43mins
Distance - 6.79km
Start BG - 7
End BG - 8.3 (so pretty level)
Fuel - 20g at start and 20g after 20mins

Umpired 2 games of hockey today which is approx 10k across the two (hence the gaps in the graph) but pleased with how it went (BG wise) - best its ever been (It was worse yesterday when I did the same!)
