I received a letter inviting me on the dafne course which I was happy about so booked the time off work to attend only to be told a week before that I couldn't go as I was only diagnosed in June and had to be diagnosed for 6 months? This has really frustrated me more so due to the fact if booked it off work! Has anyone else had this problem?

No, but it seems silly that you need to be diagnosed 6 months. I see no reason for that. Unless of course they think you may still be producing a little of your own insulin which will make a difference.

That sounds really ridiculous to me ! Dafne teaches tool / techniques / principles so whether your pancreas is still producing insulin or not should not have any bearing on this. I don't know how often the Dafne courses are run where you live , but we only have them twice a year so if you were booked on one I'd take that opportunity ! . Is there someone you can talk to about this ? (Nurse, consultant etc). I'd argue that what you learn on Dafne has nothing to do with the length of time you've been diagnosed

It is unfair but their thinking may be that you will still be in honeymoon period, so still producing your own insulin. Which may make it harder to witness for yourself the principals in action.
However, the honeymoon period can last years, in fact on my course, there was a young lad who was about 2 years in but was still in honeymoon period, lets just say the biscuits and cartons of orange juice up the back of the room were well used.

I have never heard of this. Can you share the hospital/DAFNE Centre that told you this ? I would like to find out why you were told this and if in fact it is a policy or if not why it happened. Its not a good advert for DAFNE and not how centres should be running themselves.
It's in rotherham in South Yorkshire, they said the guidlines state that I can't go on for 6 months as I need to come to terms with my diagnosis I explained I'm not stupid and as I'm a nurse myself I already know the basics I just wantto learn how to manage my condition! So the last went away spoke to my DN an she flatly said I couldn't as this is what the guidlines state and then told me that they didn't have anymore courses planned so I would just have to wait, I wouldn't mind but the course was October and November Iv been diagnosed 6 months in december

We have had members here in the past that have had to wait for up to a year or more after being diagnosed, so I don't think it's uncommon. I didn't do DAFNE, but attended a shorter course run by my diabetes clinic around 3 months after diagnosis. It gave me the basics and I have managed pretty well on my own.
