Dad kept in hospital

I am very touched by all the good wishes, you are so very kind

Yesterday in the A & E department - I have never felt so alone. Dad is my only relative - so to read your good wishes - oh tears, thank you.

Not much to tell - still no diagnosis. All that happened today, a shower, more doctors carrying all the same tests, again! Pints of blood taken, then in the afternoon, a CT scan - no way an MRI I was told.

Tomorrow, 'physio. All the test results should be in tomorrow, son hopefully we will know more then.

I do hope that everything is fine with your dad and that he comes home soon. I am pleased that the support you have off here has made you feel comforted because you have given lots of support in the past to others.🙂Bev
 
Hazel, unless you are totally satisfied with whatever diagnosis they give, don't let them frighten you into submission. Does your dad have any use of his leg again now? A CT is fine to start with but otherwise an MRI is required. Go to the top, ask for the consultant. Hugs.xx

Again - thanks everyone

Dad is being kept in till next week - physio and occ therapist want to spend more time with him, as they do not work Sat/Sun. The doctors say he is fine and they say the have nothing more that he needs.

CT scan showed a little bleed, but nothing too terrible, they called it a minor stroke. He is currently walking with a zimmer frame. He is fine in himself, showers and shaves himself every morning and is eating well.

When he gets home - the physio and occ therapist will be coming to the home for a couple of weeks to monitor his progress in the home .

He has been very lucky - he will need to be monitored, but at 85, he is doing well.

Off to bed now - I am shattered
 
Thanks for the update Hazel, glad to hear that he is being well cared for. Hope you get a good night's sleep, you must be very tired. 🙂

Hi Hazel, Glad to hear that your Dad is on the mend.
Physio will also see if your dad needs some hand rails or safety features for the bath etc, once he is home. So sounds like a good service to me.
Hope you have had a good snooze and more refreshed this morning.
 
Steffie - thanks for asking - he will be in for a few days yet.

Today he had an occupational therapist assessment todau and he did not do too well.

The hospital, will arrange assisted living at home. This will include social workers, meal support, review of his home, physio at home and complete review of his meds.

The hospital have been superb with him and with their help organising home help, I am sure he will return to fair help soon

Hazel, it sounds as though he will be well provided for when he is able to return home - good news, and I hope he is well enough to return soon. How does he feel about the experience? Does he enjoy people looking after him or does he hate the fuss? 🙂 Hope you are doing OK too 🙂
 
Thanks Alan, I am Ok, not sleeping well at all, but a bit better than last week, when I felt frightened and so alone.

In all this, I have a job interview tomoro - bad timing eh?

Dad is a good patient, does as he is told. He is bored now, finding days long. He is not really looking forward to the whole care package.

The medics want him to be able to manage on his own, in his home, with help, for as long as possible.

I am pleased though, as if I get a job, some of the stress is taken off my shoulders

When my FIL was in hospital for a while they had an area in the hospital where they were able to assess his ability to climb stairs, make tea, coffee etc, how easy it was to get up and down. They then were able to go out to his house and make some adjustments before sending him home.

Councils also have their own physios who can assess your Father once home and can suggest mods to the house - shower room etc for which means tested grants are available.
