Had my results this morning. Gone up from 6.9 to 7.2 so GP put me on Metformin. I asked for the slow release ones which he gave me. Also have chronic kidney disease stage 3 B. Everything else seems ok. Have to be reviewed again in 3 months. The reason for the latest blood test was that I was thought to have slight anaemia but that is ok for the moment. I don't know anything about Metformin slow release so if anyone has any good tips I would love to know. I have to take 1 500 mg at breakfast time and after two weeks take the second one with main meal in the evening.

You did the right thing in asking for the slow release version, and being introduced to it in stages is also a good thing.

I am on the normal version, which has a couple of main disadvantages which hopefully should be less on the SR version. The first major disadvantage is the feeling and need to be very close to a loo as it can cause tummy problems. 😱 . One of the other main problems is that it can cause wind problems, I have been on std met for 13 years and it still gets windy.

I agree with Pav's summary. I've been on standard metformin for over a year, and after the first few weeks my tummy settled down nicely. I find that if I eat carbs with the meal that accompanies the tablet, the windy problem is worse - so you might want to adjust what you have for breakfast and tea. Good luck! 🙂

I hope things go well witthe meds for you. If I am going to give any advice it is to make sure you eat something ( even a slice of toast and an apple) as it helps the meds work better
