Hi Ingressus,
I do hope it goes ok and your fears and worries are relinguised, I will follow this thread with interest as insulin may well be the option for me but will not know till March.

Good luck and thinking of you

Hope your appointment goes well.

remember your pen and notepad so write everything down - if you are feeling stressed you might forget what they say. Also, all of the questions / discussion points you want to raise.
Best of luck

Best of luck, hope all goes well 🙂

I hope all goes smoothly @Ingressus, I will be sending positive vibes your way 🙂

I am sure your anxiety will soon fade away once you are more familiar with what to expect - it's the fear of the unknown and the fact you've been able to build it up in your mind that's the problem, once you are over the first hurdle you'll be fine 🙂

Fear of the unknown - the very worst sort - but past experience with all sorts of things tell me that the reality is normally nothing like as bad as I thought it would be. (Cataract Operation was I thought hateful, didn't hurt a bit and nothing went wrong, only took a few minutes. However I just didn't LIKE it ! I told the surgeon this and said 'but it certainly was nowhere near hateful enough to stop me having the other one done when it needs it!' and laughed) Nobody 'loves' having jabs of any sort anyway - but if you are expecting an insulin jab to be anything whatsoever like any other jab you've ever had in your life so far - then I absolutely assure you - it will be a very, very pleasant surprise indeed!

I call a spade a spade mate - and what I've just said is 100% true.

It will be FINE. Good luck!

Hi @Ingressus . I agree with everything Jenny has said especially the part in bold.
I know you don't believe it right now but soon it will become second nature to you.
Do let us know how our get on.

Awww thanks for the support, well i did it yes! You were right i spend a month worrying about got to the clinic felt sick i was shown the pen shown how to put needle on shake it, squirt it, it went back to 0, i was afraid of that thought i might get air bubble in me, funny how your mind works, then injected myself, i didnt hurt, infact the needle was larger than the pens im getting didnt have a small one i m still not happy but the fear has gone.

Anyone who is going through the same thing its really not as bad as whats going through your head Honestly
I have to take it twice a day 12 in the morning and 8 at night what ever that means

I am very pleased to hear this, In time it will be second nature to you. I've been on the go juice a little over a year now, for me it has been the best thing since sliced bread.

Glad to hear it went better than you feared, well done! 🙂 It sounds like a mixed insulin to me. Have they given you a contact number in case you need to adjust the doses? They usually start you off on very cautious doses to see how you respond. Remember though, always carry some fast-acting sugar with you in case your levels fall low - jelly babies are my favourite medicine, but there are loads of other things. Were hypos explained to you?

Thanks appreciated yes i have a blood sugar dairy with a number in it to call , i was explained hypos bit scary but i seem to have a bottle of Lucozade everywhere i go, also explained DVLA which was again a bit worrying as im a National Rep, started me off on 12 in the morning and 8 at night need to make sure my blood sugars are above 8.5 before i go to bed well i have never had a problem with that thats for sure

Hope everything goes well & you get the hang of Insulin quickly.

Hee hee - I loathe people who say 'I told you so' - don't you?

I think you'll be gobsmacked at how quickly you achieve that 8.5 or at least, a darn good reduction in whatever it is you've got used to seeing - I sincerely hope you do anyway, since that's the whole purpose of the exercise.

All DVLA will do, is send you a licence you will have to renew every 3 years - however they will rescind your existing rights over and above 2500 kgs - the old C1 - and upwards but if you NEED more than a car licence, then there are ways of reinstating some of them. Keep a copy of your old licence if you've got eg a motorbike licence on top of your car one. You shouldn't lose that particular category - but they're a bit fond of accidentally missing things off and if you haven't still got your 'pink' slip it's the very devil to prove now that you passed your test for it in c.1969. One chap we heard of that this happened to was a flippin Police Motorbike instructor !!!

Main thing is, the testing rules - before driving every time (unless you only did it a short while before) and every 2 hours whilst driving. So either pull off the road somewhere safe whilst on your journey and do it, or say drive to client, do the business, come out and it's 100 minutes since the last test and next apt is 30 mins drive, do it there and then before resuming your journey again.

The knack is managing your diabetes to fit in with your life, whilst sticking to the Law and minimising the risk to your health. Always wanted to be a juggler, secretly, didn't you!!

You'll be fine, it just becomes a way of life.
