Cubital & Carpal Tunnel Syndromes

I have had nerve conduction studies done recently @Lucyr.

Its all a bit crude, at least to my technical eye. A ring electrode is dangled on a finger, a movable electrode is placed on your forearm over a nerve and a voltage applied. You get a bit of a jolt down your arm whilst somebody looks at a computer screen. They also might stick in some needles and listen to some crackly noises.

Would not worry too much about your sensor or clothing if my experience is anything to go by. At worst, it is just a bit uncomfortable.

Thanks @Docb its done by a healthcare scientist so I assume they don’t tell you any results and you just have to wait for a letter after.

Invest had nerve studies in both arms at various times. They stuck things in from shoulder to hand for me so I think it a good idea to wear your sensor on the least affect arm. It doesn’t hurt, feels odd and at most uncomfortable and nothing lasts more than a second even then. Get the results and go from there. I was told my cubital syndrome would continue to affect my hand and dexterity even after having had it for some years before surgery. It didn’t improve as I’d left it all too late to treat but it hasn’t got worse either.

Thanks, yeah I read even if you have the surgery it isn’t instant improvement it can take a year to see improvement and even then not always back to where you used to be. To lose the dexterity in my musician hand is quite a blow though so hoping it gets better than it is now. Did you have the surgery in the end?

I did, cubital tunnel release, but I’d had pins and needles sensations for probably 6+ yrs at that point (long story why) so it was unlikely the nerves would repair. For me it was to stop it getting worse. It’s still annoying sometimes but mostly I filter it out. Luckily it’s my non dominant hand
