Hi, Welcome! I guess this all sounds a bit scary at the moment. I would start by keeping a diary of your sugar levels before and 2 hours after eating so that you can see what adjustments to make.

Its definitely worth checking out the online carb counting course but it seems to me that you need more support from your diabetes team. If they are not giving you enough support it might be time to go to a different hospital. We now get the choice of which hospital to go to and who to see for our care. You could try ringing the diabetes uk careline, they are brilliant and have advised me on good local consultants, courses etc that are all on the nhs and in my local area. They really are very knowledgeable 🙂

This 🙂 welcome to the forum!

It does sound scarey but I need to do something. I test my blood reguraly before meals. I will definately look at the online carb counting course to give me a good idea, will this show me how to adjust my dose?

I dont have any support from my diabetic team and have thought about changing to the other hospital around this way. I think I might just try and get myself refered. thank you x

It won't show you how to, but from the information you gather you should be able to work out if you need to make adjustments (for example, if you are going high 2 hours post meal, you might think about adjusting your ratio for that meal). Plus we can all help out - we can't give medical advice, but we can share our experiences and let you know what we would do in the same situation 🙂

Another welcome from me. Sounds like you are having a tough time. The advice given here is excellent, and I can't really add to it. Take care of yourself...

I live in a small village in Norfolk called Marham. I currently use a hospital In Kings Lynn but am going to try and get refered to Norwich. Would this have to be done via my doctor?

We have a few members in your neck of the woods, so hopefully they will be able to let you know how good or otherwise the care is in Norwich 🙂 I do believe that you have to be referred by a GP.

Welcome Nicnak this is a good place to come I have only found it about 10 months ago and untill then I was on my own dident get much help from the Doctors but when I found this forum they have all been great.
I have had the D for 37 years and its only since going on a DAFNE caurse that I have done carb counting last September and I am not right yet but a lot better than I was. I have lost weight got more energy and feel good.
I am getting help now from the Hospital and will soon be getting a pump.
So ask anything you like on hear someone will give it a good go to help you.
Speek to your Doctor and get to a DAFNE it will be the best thing.
Good look and take care

I wasn't happy with the D care/Support (or lack of it!) I was getting so I changed hospitals myself (Hampshire to West Sussex), I didn't go through my GP.....I just did it! My GP is kept informed by the D centre I use. If you are not getting the support you need.....do something about it!! Very frustrating that so called medical experts do not deliver diabetes advice!!
