So as a new type 1 , who was carb counting for 5 years when we thought I was a type 2 . I haven't eaten crisps for about 5 years, I was really strict with myself. I thought I'm going for a packet of ready salted , had a cheap ,Lidl packet 13g carbs didn't need to inject for it, I was fine.
So after my hosp appt thought I'd treat myself to a baked low fat packet. Half way through complaining about how little is in the pack I saw the carbs . 28g per pack. Newbie error . So much for the healthy options.

Ah, the 'healthy' word gets thrown around too easily nowadays I think. It's really dependant on people's diets, conditions and choices. Low fat, low sugar, low carb, low cal... All of those might get advertised as 'healthy', would be 'low' for one thing and yet 'full of' another. I remember when I was much younger, I thought dried fruits would be a healthier alternative as a snack while I was studying, just some dried apple slices. Thank goodness I checked the back... Double, even triple of what the usual 'unhealthy' snacks would carry, when it came to sugars and even cals.

I always used to have some dried fruit with my lunch. A lot easier to take in the computer bag and easier to snack than perling an orange . I used to add dried apricots to the morning porridge. That is until I was diagnosed as type 2 when I had to stop some of the "healthy" choices.

Always check the carbs @Karen999 You’d be surprised how much crisps and crisp-like items (baked lentil pops, etc) can vary. Same with snacks like cereal bars, cake bars, biscuit-type things, etc.

Personally, I like Kettle Chips but they’re quite addictive

I like a packet off crisps usually walker multi pack 13 carbs. Went shopping and saw walkers baked low fat, never checked carbs which were 20 and didn’t taste that nice. Rest in cupboard Mibi hubby might eat them

Hope you enjoyed your crisps @Karen999

Important to check the carbs, and dose appropriately for them. Then you can eat crisps/snacks whenever you fancy them, as long as they fit with your weight goals etc.

Unless for whatever reason you find the extra dose / calculation / blah blah blah a bit too faffy, in which case you may just want to only have them more rarely, or as part of a larger meal.

I'm T2 and crisps are something that I used to enjoy.....Walkers baked , although there is so little in the pack now added to the carb count it's not worthwhile. You just have to look at what has been said and decide when and where your treats lie. I had lunch with a friend last week , lovely pub in Eversley . Naughty I had haddock and chips peas and the dreaded tartare sauce. I asked for very few chips they tucked eight under my fish!!!!!! In return they had a clean plate and a very happy customer. I did not have pudding and only some yoghurt for tea, but so enjoyed my treat.......win some and lose some battles. Good luck.

Bells in Durham do a really nice salad option with your fish if you want it instead of chips and mushy peas. The salad is really refreshing and includes all sorts of interesting items including mange tout, bits of strawberry and a few pomegranate seeds and the odd baby corn along with mixed lettuce leaves and tomato and cucumber and peppers and raw onion and a quarter of lemon of course. I pinch a chip or two from my partner (with consent of course!). It is a rare treat.

Pomegranate seeds are food of the devil, I hate them, fresh dried or whatever. I had a mixture of various seeds and what had they added the dreaded pomegranate seeds.

Try holland and barrat......they do all sorts of alternative 'crisps' which are carb low......i like the sea weed ones

If you like Skips and/or Quavers, you'll find they are on the lower end of total carbs per packet.
Yes only 7.3g carb in a multipack size pack of skips! Cheetos (blue pack not flaming hot) are 6.0g. Or the salt and vinegar hippeas chickpea snacks are nice at 7.7g. Many of the eat real range of veg/lentil based crisps are under 10g too, not forgetting popcorn which can be similarly low on carbs if choosing plain ones.
