Hello

If you’ve had covid, how were your blood sugars and for how long? Been feeling rubbish all day today so worked from home and did an LFT after work which was positive. Blood sugars have been high yesterday and today.

Only slightly raised over the 14 days i tested positive. Maybe 1 or 2 mmols in first few days not a lot after that. Although i was positive for a long time i only had symptoms similar to a head cold so maybe a mild case.

I'm around the 18-20 levels since yesterday. Symptoms only started today first thing in the morning with a sore throat, enough to stay home to work not go to the office. It got worse this evening as was joined by dizziness, temperature, headache, cold symptoms, and did the LFT which was positive.

Oh i didnt go that high but did have similar symptoms for first day or so. . It eased after day or two and ended up just very bunged up for the next week or two and tired more than usual (still am). My BG up 1-2mmols but i wasn't exercising as i isolated so that may also have contributed. I hope you get better soon and the BG levels drop soon.

Hi, I’ve just come out of hospital - type 1 - they discharged me with covid, my levels are up and down 6-26 up to now, thankfully ketones have stayed low

Sorry to hear that @Mal / Blackpool UK - all you ruddy need after presumably being in hospital for summat else. All you can do is test test test and correct correct correct - ie sick day rules. Did they tell you to test for ketones even when BG is still under 10 - cos that has been a feature of Covid for anyone with D.

Only on day 3 and symptoms mild so far, and levels have settled, but I am ‘cheating’ and have a pump doing the work for me in a closed loop. Impressed so far with how it is coping after slightly raised levels in the first day.

I had not seen the bit about the possibility of ketones when below 10 with COVID. Thanks for the heads up @trophywench

Hi, no they told me to do ketones if it’s over 20, they are hopeless they. I had a house sale going through when I went in with an abscess on my groin, so I was in hospital when that happened. I was discharged with the wrong address even tho I told them about the change, I’ve only got 4 blood sugar testing strips left now, nurse said she would add them to the prescription but just ring the chemist and no sign of them yet. They don’t seem to read the notes tbh, even in the vic it was what side of the groin is it on, only changed dressing 3 times to if it gets infected I will go back in, so 4 clean dressings in 13 days, nurse last night said she would get a more specialised one to visit me, bit no sign yet.
Sorry I’m a whinging old get, it’s just so frustrating you tell them and tell them they say yes I will sort it out, all you do is worry yourself to death

How are you doing? Sorry this is my first time on a forum, struggling with the links

That's one good thing about this forum - we can all have a right ole whinge on here - and nobody holds that against us! 😉

Hi, mine are all over the place, ranging from 6.7 to 26.5 yesterday, it was 21 this morning, hope your feeling better soon

Yeah re the 'under 10' thing - summat they coincidentally discovered in the first wave of Covid - and I haven't seen that discounted yet - hence assume it is the same! Though honestly, I haven't actually asked a D consultant since then, not only owing to the fact that I ain't seen one since!

Are you type 1? Last night I was shaking sweating / then shivering, was a horrid night.
I think they are my Hypo signs, they do tell me but I don’t take it in somehow so they’ve wrote it down for me now, 2 days out of the vic and I’m a nervous wreck, thinking back I had 3 in there, woke up absolutely drenched through. I’ve only 3 glucose test strips left, just hoping they arrive at the chemist later this afternoon.

See they told me 20, it’s so good being on here with other people experiencing the same, I think I know how to navigate the site a bit better now. How’s your day up to now

Hi all,I’m just recovering from Covid. My blood sugar levels were high teens early 20’s for about a week. I was in constant contact with my DSN who told me my body would need a lot more insulin than normal ,also had to check my ketone levels regularly. Must admit it was all a bit scary but thankfully slowly getting back to normal.

I had Covid last week (T1 diabetic of 25 years). Symptoms lasted for 7 days, my body required more insulin for about 3 days, but I never went over 12 the entire time. The faster your immune response kicks in, the faster it drives the virus out and blood sugars return to normal.

Unfortunately,I don’t have a spleen so my immune system is very poor,so when ever I am ill it takes a long time to recover.

Sorry to hear. I'm afraid my expertise lies only in diabetes, I wouldn't know what to suggest for that. Best wishes and good luck friend.

I have been living without a spleen since 2013 so I’m quite used to all the other issues it causes. I have to take penicillin every day for the rest of my life but this only gives me a small protection.
Thankyou for the good wishes.

I had a reasonably good day - helped by us both going into the GP surgery this morning - me to deliver my BP readings having finally been asked for them in writing, only taken since January, and Pete managing to book a phonecall from a GP in the morning, that all week he's been told is not possible and can he ring tomorrow - this is because one of the GPs sent him a text saying THEY needed to speak to HIM about one of his blood test results, so please arrange a phone appt with a GP. He was sitting there, trawling the internet at the time the text arrived and rarely has anything he can't stop doing for 10 minutes anyway if a doc rang him out of the blue!

Hi Judy, glad to read your Covid is coming more under control now.
