Could it be that my lad has turned the corner and has possibly started testing/injecting again??? I don't know, I am only guessing, but there are a few little signs.
1. I noticed a pack of Dextrose tablets had gone missing from the kitchen cupboard 2 or 3 days ago (they have sat there for ages).
2. There was an empty Novorapid box left on the kitchen worktop last night.
3. I went to his room this morning to fetch his washing up and saw an open box which contained the cassettes for his monitor open on his bed.
4. His meter seems to have disappeared from its normal resting place (where it has been gathering dust for months -literally)
5. On the briefest of scans round I couldn't see his Novorapid pen anywhere (again usually left lying around on his desk)
6. I then checked all his supplies in the fridge and found a Lantus pen had gone too - his use of that is so hit and miss - very occasional use - so the fact he took a new pen is significant.
I had noticed on his bedroom floor a few days ago the case supplied by the Accu-chek people when he got his new Mobile meter was lying around - it had been previously unused and shut away in a drawer. Is he possibly using the case and carrying his meter and Novorapid pen around with him by any chance? I hardly dare suggest it, but there are so many signs, I really do hope I am right.
He had made this big speech towards the end of January that he was going to do various things, the last one of which was "Take my health more seriously" and as he has no other health issues, this is what I took it to mean. He bought himself a new bicycle on pay day last month and did start going out on it every day. He did miles the first day literally, then could barely walk day 2 (bottom pain
) so only did a very short 10 minute run the next day, and went out the following 2 or 3 days for 10-15 mins each day as soon as he got in from college. It has sat redundant in the garage the last few days, but the wind killed him off at the end of last week. He has probably forgotten now that he owns a nice new shiny bike
Anyway, fingers crossed everyone, I really am hoping this is the start of better things for my lad. His last HbA1c was a shocking 12.8, so it can only get better.
