It was 53, last month, a month after being diagnosed with 58.

Yes, I have made good progress on that score & the weight, but the fact is, I have much less energy now as I did before being diagnosed.

I think the faster acting metformin may have helped today, but only time will tell as I will stick to them now & just have a slow release during the daytime, when I am maybe not eating as much. I seem to have lost my appetite since having diabetes but that's what might be causing low energy levels.
Hi. Note that Metformin started life as an appetite suppressant to help with diets so loss of appetite is to be expected for some people.

If you are having bread for breakfast then you are not on a low carb diet.
It is likely that it will raise your insulin levels high, then as you go through the day and the insulin slowly works on the blood glucose so it is stashed away as glycogen and fat so by the time you get to mid afternoon exercise will make you feel dreadful as you get lower and lower, unable to replenish your blood glucose levels as your resistance to insulin reduces.
It is absolutely typical of someone who probably had reactive hypoglycaemia in early life and has progressed to full diabetes, type 2 in later life.
In the mornings when insulin resistance is highest I never eat a lot of carbs, but I find I do need some, so an omelette with a tomato, or a sweet pepper or mushrooms keeps my numbers normal.
If you really need to eat something breadlike then the Lidl high protein rolls, if they are available where you are, seem to be tolerated by many people and don't spike my numbers like other breads.

Many thanks Drummer,

It was only a couple of recent occasions where I had some toast, I generally don't feel like eating much & if I do it's either scrambled eggs or
a high fibre muesli although I know this has sugar/carbs, but it burns a bit slower.

I do find eggs & vegetables work well for me overall.

Muesli eh?

If your numbers were - for instance - below 10 then I'd not be so bothered - but I'd advise that you really consider where your carbs are coming from and at what time of day - later in the day usually means less insulin resistance.
I've been aiming to stay below 7 mmol/l - my grandmother died from the complications of diabetes, and I remember it well even though I was just a child. It was the best sort of aversion therapy I could ever have had. I want normal blood glucose levels and to be walking about on two good feet until I finally drop of the perch full of years.

Hi, I have been eating wholegrain porridge most mornings now, which is less carbs than muesli. It' a good point you make about carbs later in the day.
If I have brown rice , it tends to make me feel better for longer. I have started eating more fats, like cream, cheese, greek yoghurt, these make me feel fuller for longer.

Lots of Health care professionals have different ideas ? T1 you pancreas does not work. T2 it may work 20% or 80%. Keeping active is good & keep at things like porridge (slow release of energy) 🙂

I do not eat grains, legumes, potatoes or high starch veges, and only low carb fruits.
My last Hba1c was just under the prediabetic range. I don't find it a hardship in any way, I feel younger and have energy again.
