I have bought some cottage cheese to try. It is Longley Farm natural with only milk and salt. Its a 250g pot and per 100g the carbs/glucides equal 2.2g and the sugars equal 2.1g.
I cannot for the life of me work out if this is too much (obviously it depends on the quantities I eat) carbohydrate.
Salt is 0.8 per 100 grams.
Please help a lost soul who can't do calculations... thank you. Make it simple please.
I would say it would count as pretty low carb, lower than the equivalent weight of full fat yoghurt. Even if you ate the whole pot it would be less carbs than a small potato.
I'm not sure what you need to calculate.
I get Longley Farm cottage cheese, it is by far the nicest I’ve tried. As you say..it depends how much you eat. I couldn’t eat more than a quarter of the pot at one sitting, it’s surprisingly filling. The whole pot would be 5.5g of carb, the 'of which sugar' is irrelevant, there’s no added sugar, it just means the natural lactose in the milk accounts for most of the carb.

I do not know what counts as suitably low carb as I haven't eaten bread or potatoes, grains etc for many many years... I have a very restricted diet related to other food difficulties and when I was diagnosed as borderline Diabetic 2 I was really confused. My dietician says what I eat is what she would suggest to others as diabetics and could not understand my readings. I react to carbs. I just wanted to know how it was calculated in regard to other things. I get so bored with what I eat I look to occasionally trying something new. Thank you.
Roys stores of Wrexham stock it but it is mainly sold on site from West Yorkshire..Holme Farm...HD9 2JD.
It used to be on the shelf in Sainsies but that was years ago.
It is hard to get hold of but if you do get to taste it you won't buy the supermarket cottage cheese again. It is quite thick and creamy...not watery and thin...www.longleyfarm.com where they might list stockists. Good luck.
Hi. A 250gm pot has 260 cals and 6gm carbs. It would do me 3 or 4 servings. I like a tablespoon topped with 8 king prawns and a teaspoon of Morrisons reduced fat seafood sauce, all in a lettuce leaf wrap. I first came across this combination in a Little Chef restaurant (who remembers them) and I've loved it ever since.
The only "local" place I can find it is Home Bargains, even that is about 45 mile round trip. Think many years ago I got it in Sainsburys and/or Asda, but might depend on location.
I think this is the best cottage cheese I've had. So tasty I have to ration it so don't overdose. It's much drier and got more texture than any others I've tried. This is all based on the fat-free version.
I have to eat the whole carton so if I was trying to do low carb is that too much? I can't leave anything in a carton, I have to clear the lot. My mind couldn't take it.
I ate half a tub which heightened my readings but I am very carb sensitive. I should think it would depend on your whole carb intake for the day or the levels you can tolerate without ill effects. Someone else might be able to guide you here.
