Hey lovelies what do you guys think of corn ??? Like out of a tin ?
Is it even safe to eat or is it a test and see how you handle it ???
My father in law said you could add it in a salad but I’m not so sure on it to be honest , I’m like hesitant on it for some reason , I use to eat a lot of corn with butter but it was on the cob and not a tin.

It's a grain, so a bit more carbohydrate than other vegetables.
I had a look on the side of the tin of Lidl sweetcorn that I have in the cupboard, and it says it's 102 calories and 7.7g of carbs per 100g, so not massive. Tinned sweetcorn is sometimes packed in salt and sugar as well as water, so you might like to check the label if you're buying it. The salt/sugar thing wouldn't be a problem with fresh corn.
I'd probably have it with salad, but not eat a massive portion - the tin is 170g, so 173.4 calories, 13.09g of carbs. I don't think I've had it since diagnosis, so would be doing a BG test to make sure it was ok.
Cheers, Sarah

On the cob or frozen wouldn't have the possibility of sugary liquid, so look at the carb value on what you buy and try a small amount to start with and test your reaction.

Thankyou heaps for that Sarah , the tin my father in law bought isn’t sweet but it says 1.2 in sugar and 8.0 in carbs on the tin. But I don’t know for some reason my body is telling me no and I have no idea why :/. Is that normal for your body to say no to you ??? I mean I could add it in salad but I’m skepectial about it and I have no idea why . I’m not doing it on purpose or anything .

Hmmm... I sometimes don't fancy eating something. If you don't want to eat it, then maybe only have a tiny portion, like a teaspoon of sweetcorn, or delay having it until you do feel like eating it? Food shouldn't be a terrible chore.
Good luck! Sarah

Great suggestions above. I'd always have a look at the glycemic index (GI) of the carbohydrate too.

It seems corn has a GI of 53, so it has a higher potential to spike. A better alternative for a salad might be chickpeas which have glycemic index of 28, but are also quite sweet and can be amazing when roasted.

Usually if a carbohydrate has a glycemic index lower than 30 you should be in the safe zone (assuming moderate amounts), but of course everyone's microbiome is different, so to be sure always do a BG test.

Also, if you do decide to eat corn, better to match it with a fat (e.g. butter) as that will reduce the spike too.

Hope this helps!

I was told the clue is in the name SWEETcorn - I have a mini corn cob once in a while if I fancy it - same as peas are no longer a regular as they are sweet carbs too - though I do NOT suggest actually eating "sweet peas" - although I did do that as a child and, obviously, lived to tell the tale 😱 .... I do wonder how I've managed to live so long when I think back!

Thankyou everyone I appericate all the advice , I’ve put small amounts of corn into my salad with eggs and avocado to hopefully slow the carbs down a bit . To be honest I don’t miss eating it at all .
