hello!
I want to accompany salad with my food.
The problem I am facing is that salad often goes bad within few days, so I only end up eating plum tomatoes.
Is there any nice pickled cabbage, white or red, with some cut onion that I can use to make a salad similar to what turkish restaurants serve? But that won't go off within few days?
thanks!

I find that red and white cabbage and regular onions all last a few days in fridge, if I cut only what I need, then place cut side down on a plastic box or plate. Spring or salad onions last well, too - just use a few from a bunch each time.

The problem with cabbage is that is needs to stay with seasoning to become softer. That's why I wonder if there is cut and seasoned available that lasts longer?

Sorry, no idea. I prefer crunchy cabbage, carrots, celery etc to soft / soggy veg.

Well her's a recipe for the dressing - you'd have to make up a little batch and see how long it lasted for I suppose. The oil won't go off for a while, neither would the lemon juice but don't think you'd want to keep it longer than a day or two.

We buy our salad ingredients on Sunday and they are all fine by Thursday when we normally polish them off. They go in the bottom of the fridge. We usually make a large mixed salad that lasts two days as cutting things up increases the area exposed to the air. We always leave out the cucumber and tomato when we do this as they go soggy, just cut those fresh on the second day. How long do you need them to keep for?

Was there supposed to be a recipe link there Jenny?

Oh fiddle LOL !

Can't find the recipe now but anyway 6 tabs good olive oil, juice of 1 and a half lemons, clove of garlic, crushed and salt/pepper.

Some have added chopped mint, some have sumac which I'm not familiar with myself (a school friend's mom & dad had a sumac tree in their front garden, but said the berries were poisonous so I dunno!) and some have pomegranate seeds.

Tesco has Sumac powder in small tubs in the spices and dried herbs etc section. Another tasty ingredient to add a bit of oomph as required

Yeah but what the heck does it taste OF ?
