Just wondering how often the rest of you guys perform a control test? x

Normally it's when I suspect that a meter is faulty or getting inconsistent results, as I use two meter my first port of call is use one blood drop onto two test strips out of the same pot on both meters. If there is a drastic difference I will repeat the test and if still out ring the c/s for the meter supplier who will send a test solution to see if there is any problems.

Think going off a poor memory, I have used may be 2 or 3 test solutions over the years.

Ah good I'm not feeling too bad now then haha thanks 🙂 x

I think I may have control tested once, in the early days, just because I wanted to know what it involved. I suppose I would if I started getting odd results, but because I use the Libre half the time, I've got that as a cross check.

I was starting to feel a bit worried that all you guys would say you did it every time you opened a new pot of strips like is suggested haha x

I never bother. The last time I did it was when I had the Glucotrend a good few years ago now and that was only because Roche offered it when I phoned up for something else - batteries probably.

I'm an almost complete Libre user, but I do use stick tests - in the Libre reader. I only did that, because the bean counters wouldn't supply my One Touch strips. They won't supply Libre strips either, but I only use them about twice a week, so buying them isn't a great problem. I did use control solution with the One Touch meter about once a year. I may at some stage get some for the Libre, but I'm in no great rush.

Do you guys actually realise how at ease you've made me feel lol, I so thought you were all going to say - oh about once a month or something haha, the DSN did it before he gave me my new meter in December and I thought oh I better try doing one the other week but duh the solution couldn't be used, so I ordered some from Accu Chek at the start of the week, got it today and performed the first test earlier haha x

I have been diabetic 17 years and have had meters replaced twice in recent years for faults unrelated to reading errors, one for the date kept resetting itself and recently one where the test strip port did not always register the strip being inserted. Give Glucomen c/s their due they sent replacements by return and even changed both my meters last time to what my new doctors support.

I've been diabetic almost 3 years now and I've only ever done 1 control test when I first got my meter!

Erm I've done one but that was before I went on the Libre. aren't we a rebellious lot lol .

LOL - I'm very much like pav, but comparatively increased for the 45 years to her 17.

I did the first one ever the other week since getting my first pump and 'matching' meter in 2009 !

About a year ago, because when my GP do their annual round of blood tests, they include a straight BG test as well, when the vampire removed the needle from my arm for all of those, I had a loaded test strip ready, hence it should be the same as the lab test when that came back. It was 0.1 or 0.2 adrift so to me that's an 'agree'.

The vampires don't think you're batty if you ask them to do this, at all. However as I say the hospital don't do a straight BG on their standard list since they know T1s test all the while anyway and regard the Roche pump handsets as the 'gold standard' home-use meters anyway.

I use the Roche cassette instead of strips as DSN said " I was a good chap " lol and control test once every 500 test approx.
