Hi All
Hope you are all well. I’m new to this forum and have gone from having gestational diabetes to type two, after two pregnancies in short succession, what fun!
My tester kit is a contour next not sure of the model as threw out the box yonks ago but my readings seem to be really high. So thought I would use the tester fluid to check the kit was working properly and the result was 7.5. Is that right, as when I was trained to use it they told me it should read 5.0?
I’ve check on the contour website and they say the expected result from the fluid should be on the bottle or the box of the test strips but I can’t find anything?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
V

Hi. The test range will be on the pot of test strips. It will say so,mething like "Control solution range" and underneath there may be two ranges. I have a CareSens and it gives Control L : 2.1-3.7 and Control H: 11.9-16.2
Some meters just have one control solution that will have a mid range probably somewhere in the 5s and 6s but will still specify a range and not an individual number as they are not that accurate. The test strips should read the appropriate solution within the range stated.
I have never heard of a meter giving a finite test number and my gut feeling is that either the person was misinformed or you misunderstood.

Thanks thats really helpful, I think it’s likely I missunderstood, had terrible baby brain!

The ranges are definitely on the box or the pot, I'll have a look when I'm through the house later and let you know if you haven't found them already xx

Right, checked my pot of Contour Next strips and details as follows

Control N - 6.1 - 7.6 mmol
Control L - 2.1 - 2.6 mmol
Control H - 17.8 - 22.2 mmol

Hope this helps xx

I think the testing solution goes off after 3 months of opening, mine does anyway.

Yes do check the expiry date on the control solution - it's incredibly short in my experience. In any case, just ring Ascensia on 0345 800 6030 and they'll send you a new bottle.

Hope you manage to check it OK and get reassured @Vdubz

I’ve always found Contour Next meters rock-solid
