As some of you may know I was due to go to have a CGM fitted today but it didn't quite go to plan. The reason for this was the fact that I have a very hairy belly and they had negelected to tell me to shave she tried on the sides but I just kept on bleeding and they wouldn't stick. Now the thing was they had no razors there so we couldn't save a patch of hair off in the middle of me belly to try. Of cause what I should have done was get some bics from the hospital shop but didn't think of that did I.

When I had to have an ECG done they had razors then and happily shave the areas on my chest to fit the pads for that. Hope they don't have the same problem oh your having a heart attack please can you shave these areas at home before you get to hospital.

But anyway they are going to recall me and have asked me to shave two areas the size of credit cards for them to try next time....

Just wondered if any of the pumpers are hairy do you have this problem attaching your canulars for your pump? Thoughts.

Marc

Wouldn't have occurred to me either Marc. I'm quite hairy so a pump or cgm would presumably give me a few issues.🙂

I am glad you mentioned this as it would not have occured to me. My consultant has just decided not to do this continuous glucose monitoring and instead applied for funding for a pump.

/watches thread with interest.

Oh deary me, this sort of thing always annoys me (not you of course). The people inserting the CGMS I guess don't do this all the time so wouldn't think of the shaving or the very very simple answer of putting it somewhere else.

You can use the love handle area, your butt, your stomach, your arm, your thigh...........

They could also have gone to the hospital (presuming it is in a hospital) and got you some Cavilon. This leaves a film (see through) when sprayed on and whilst it is generally used if you are sensitive to the sticky stuff, it also makes things stick to it a lot harder.

I'm sure they could have found an area with less hair for a CGM.

Are you going back again once shaved ?

🙄

Hahahaha so long as you lay down and don't walk for a week !

Kind of defeats the object though and would hurt a hell of a lot so no not a good idea. 🙂

This was in the diabetes centre at the hopsital by one of their team my legs and butt are all very hairy. Tried me love handles but kept on bleeding into canular. I have to return with two areas shaved the size of credit card each. That is gonna look so good.

How about a full body wax? 😱

So I currently have a patch pump and I had to shave my belly. The size of the pump meant I had no choice. It's not a great look 😉

All I can say on this post is - 1) Must remind myself to ask my DSN for one of those tests and 2) As far as I am concerned the hairer the man the better :D

Hehee, I'm glad I wasn't the first person to have that thought! On a more serious note, I would never have thought about shaving! When I had my cgm, the first one didn't work and was really painful, and bled. The second one was fine. Good luck for next time!

I want to know how to get one! If I say I don't need shaving will they let me have one??

A lot of male pumpers to shave😱

Cavilon only has so much sticking power and if it did work could you imagine the waxing power removing the adhesive patch😱 Less painful shaving first hehehe

Even though they've told you to shave before hand next time, I would still take a razor and shaving gel with you, just in case your chosen spots aren't suitable...

Dont realy undestand this as I had a CBM on my arm unless Im thinking of smething differend but I have to have another one on before I get my pump have to go 5th Jan so will wet you all know

I can't believe the person trying to fit the CGM had never come across a hairy torso before! They should have told you to shave, or had a packet of disposable razors (and sharps bin) to hand - that's what technicians who record ECGS do, whether in ambulance, clinic, hospital etc.

It's a shame the love handles (sides) bled - i'd say try to be persistent. This is best place for me to run cgm, on sides and lwr back. Did have one bleeder on early attempts at sides and thought it was bad idea. During next appt, ran it by my team and they said both areas were ok to use. I remember being told 50% of cgm's could bleed - that hasn't been the case, only had 2 bad enough to ditch a sensor, w/no rhyme or reason. Otherwise, there's the occasional few drips on initial set easily fixed with tissue.

Good luck on next visit!
