Says I need to relax and not be so tight, no further on where I stand with seeing a psychologist, I was given an option to consider that was spending a few days in the hospital, I don't think I can deal with that right now so I declined for the moment, I am getting a trial of the Libre! Have to go back in 2 weeks to have it fitted x

Oh Kaylz, what a numpty s/he is saying that to you, here we know if you could relax and not be so tight with your control, you would have done it long ago.
{{{{hug}}}}
Make no mistake I know you have come an awfully long way since your first posts on here
So

are in order.

Aye, great news Kaylz. Nice to have the consultant agree with us lot. You'll love the Libre, it'll give the fingers a break and you can test ten or more times a day- suits you perfectly🙂

I'm not sure what they mean by having it fitted? Is it just that they show you how to stick it on, perhaps?

The DSN thinks I may need help to stick it on as my arms aren't the fattiest so they think I might struggle myself x

I'm kind of stunned that the consultant told you to relax that's really not helpful at all. Awesome news about the libre though 🙂 xx

I am glad you liked him and he has agreed to you having a trial of the Libre. What did he say about not eating between 4 30 and morning, did he help you with snacks in evening so you don't get so hungry? Did he offer suggestions which are helpful with how you can not be so tight?
I do hope you are feeling more confident after today.
Well done for getting him to go through all your pointers and sheets!

So glad you got on with him, it's half the battle. 🙂

Great news about the Libre @Kaylz 🙂 I suspect you will get very used to it...! 🙂 I hope that it proves accurate for you, as mine have done. My advice would be to wait for 24 hours before activating it - hard to do, but I found that the only time I waited less than 24 hours the sensor was very poor. Hopefully, it will give you more confidence about how your blood sugar is reacting to the food you are eating and will help you experiment more with different things and some snacks 🙂

Thanks hun 🙂 they also did my hba1c again it's up to 34, he also said they are pushing very hard to be prescribing the libre so he's hopeful that will become available for me, oh I will Defo wait the 24 hours, any of you pros have any tips for using it lol x

Sounds like a good appointment K...believe several of us here have been singing from the same song sheet about you relaxing your control just a wee bit...great news about the Libre...as for the couple of days in hospital...ughhhh...can think of nothing worse if not absolutely necessary...your confidence is improving...well done you.

Well done, great it has gone up and shows how well you are doing. 🙂

Sounds a good appointment, despite lack of progress with getting closer to seeing psychologist. I know it doesn't help to say, but mental health services are notoriously under-resourced. Consultant offered option of spending a few days in hospital, which you declined. Better than just assuming you wouldn't be interested, making decision without asking you. The only advantage that might have offered (that I can think of) is that you could probably have experimented with eating later than 4.30pm. But it's your overall feelings that count. I hope the Libre trial will give you confidence about your blood glucose trends. Good luck!

Don't use the figures from a scan for treating hypos or calculating corrections.
See if you can get some test strips for it. That way you only need to carry one machine if you are out and about.

It wouldn't bother me too much having to carry 2 meters, my Expert fits perfectly in my wee bag and I've always got a jacket and trousers with pockets on that I could stick the reader in 🙂 x

Hi Kaylz, good news about the Libre trial. When I first tried a CGM it was from the clinic, you couldn't see the readings all week then you got a print out a week later in the post. I was really disappointed with mine, it looked really peaky and the only good day was a day I was being sick and didn't eat anything! I felty like stopping eating altogether after those graphs, but I went to a clinic appointment to discuss it and they reassured me that it actually looked pretty good- perfection is not possible. However, I felt the value of the CGM was limited because I couldn't see what effect the changes they suggested had.

When I first bought the Libre I wanted to get the most out of it, so I wrote myself a list of questions to try to solve with the data. Things like which breakfast was less spiky, how was my basal overnight, how to handle rice and pasta dishes, what to do if exercising after a meal, how to stop my BG rising when I went running. Then I tried each once and looked at the results, modified something nad tried it again in the 2 weeks. I imaging your normal daily routine graphs will look pretty good based on your results you post, and so why don't you use this time to experiment with some new meals, or with some exercise or something you wouldn't normally do, an you'll have the reassurance of being able to test often and easily. Just don't get carried away correcting if you see peaks - some rises and changes are inevtiable if you want to live a more varied life.

Hope that gives you some ideas, x

@Pigeon thanks for that, I was planning on trying some new foods when I get it actually and the first thing I was planning to have was beans on toast for lunch! How exotic eh? NOT lol, I'm considering if they don't know yet about if it will be funded here just buying the starter pack and then if they decide not to prescribe it I could just buy a sensor every couple of months or so, do you mean correcting with my insulin btw? if so I would never correct unless I was away to have a meal as that's the way I've been taught to do it so there's no stacking etc xx

Yes, that's fine then. I met a DSN in a B+B last year and got talking over breakfast and I was telling her about my Libre, and she said their worry was that people would constantly scan, see a high number and correct even if it was only an hour after a meal, and end up insulin stacking. If you never do that it's not a problem!
