hi to everyone
Went for my first Diabetic Consultant appointment today since diagnosis in August and wow !! it was a very good experience 🙂 She gave me plenty of time and answered my many (many) questions with patience and at times good humour, I asked a lot of questions !! She has screened me for so many things (they took about half a pint of blood in lots of different bottles) and she gave me a ketone meter in case of illness etc. She was very encouraging and gave me confidence that what I am doing is working to stabilise my BS and praised me for all my hard work. She also wants to keep me under the hospital`s care. I also saw the dietician and have been put forward for the DAPHNE course (although this wont be until later next year). I also saw a diabetic specialist nurse and this was all in one morning so I was very impressed by the support and encouragement I have received today (mind you there was a major problem on one of the local roads so there were not many patients able to get to their appointments and I think they had extra time today). It has made up for the 18 months I spent mis-diagnosed and feeling so bad as I could not get my BS under double figures despite all the stomach churning medication they kept giving me (I am sure they thought it was my fault, or at least that`s how I felt). The consultant said it should never have taken them so long to figure out I wasn't a type 2. But hey ho onwards and upwards (or should I say downwards for BS levels :D). I mentioned all the support I have received from being part of this on line community and she was pleased I had found you all.
All in all feeling good x

Great to hear of such a positive experience cazmod! 🙂 I'm glad you have found good care and people willing to listen, it makes such a difference! And thank you for mentioning the forum, the more it happens the more likely they are to recommend it to others 🙂

That sounds like a very positive apt Caz. It's great to hear about positive appointments 🙂

That's brilliant, as a fellow wrongly diagnosed person I have to say I spent 8 years in the desert and it was amazing to me when I got some real support and help. Good for you and great to hear about your new team!
