Considering Mounjaro......

My story is that I was diagnosed as T2 in Summer 2024. In October 2024 I began the NHS Diabetes Reversal Programme. Meal replacements, and it was really hard probably as we were near Christmas, lots of socialising etc. I have moved through and am now on the regular eating part, but I have stopped losing weight. Completely.

I have Sarcoidosis/COPD so I cannot exercise easily, I walk the dog and that's my limit. I have an underactive thyroid which is medicated.
I think Mounjaro might be for me, perhaps? I think about food from when I wake to when I sleep! I would guess I have perhaps 10-15 kilos to lose. My sugar levels are around 8 to 9. I have raised cholesterol and take a statin.

I would dive in and try this but thought I should discuss with the GP. I cannot get a telephone appointment for 6 weeks! I think I have to decide whether to just go for it. As far as I am concerned this NHS programme is done for me. I have lost about 5 kilos in total since October. I'm not on metformin as I have to stop it to go on the programme. My Hb1ac has stayed the same really.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice for me? I'd be very grateful as I am stuck in a rut,

Welcome to the forum. You could try a different tack and see if a low carb approach suits you, many find it reduces blood glucose and helps with weight loss. It is reducing carbs to no more than 130g carbs per day with real food and as such it can become a new normal way of eating. Have a look at this link for ideas, some do's and don'ts and menu plans. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Worth a shot whilst waiting for an appointment.

Next door neighbour looks fab after slimming right down with the injection but I read this week about side effect of going blind, in one eye mainly. I asked for the jab earlier this week and was of course refused, refused everything I ask for, even measuring equipment, I'm glad now though and my nephew who's into conspiracy theories says the jabs are poison! :O

I believe everything I read and am told. :D

Thanks both. I'm pretty much set on trying it. Never heard abut the going blind tale! We have that risk with Diabetes don't we.
I think I am pretty much set on trying it and ordering online - I fit the criteria. Strange of me that I wanted to run it past either the GP surgery doc or diabetes nurse and it's weeks just to have a quick chat. I'd be ordering online and paying myself, there's months of waiting for it on the NHS I hear.

I think you need to do your research on the medication, potential side effects, compatibility with other medication you are taking as if you just buy off the internet then you will be taking what is a powerful drug with no medical supervision.
A few weeks of trying something else to see if that works may mean you can spend your money on better quality food.

@SunnyTikka you were diagnosed a month before me. I still have days when I graze all day, I love food. I have a permanently slim sister who will often cook a ready meal eat half and put in fridge for next day. I have trouble doing this even if it was a two portion meal. I seem to go wrong when I've eaten a lot of carbs. I assume you stopped medication when you went on the remission programme. What is your current hba1c?

I certainly think about food a lot but I can get stuck into a book music or task and forget about food. Despite the torment of being diagnosed with type 2 where I asked for the test and was last tested in 2014 the good thing is having been fat since an early menopause 30 years ago I started losing weight by eating low carb. I hadn't seen a diet plan just cut out pastry cakes processed food rice and pasta. I eat alternatives for rice and pasta and have substantially reduced potatoes and bread. I stopped taking sugar in drinks in my teens and suspect reduced my taste for sweet things.( still like magnum icecreams) i lost a stone before being put on metformin. I found the fat and protein filled me up. For breakfast I have full fat Greek yoghurt nuts and fruit. I don't know how low fat and low salt your diet is. I use cauliflower rice and edamame bean pasta they may be a good basis for your meals with other family members having pasta or rice. I do eat fish and some meat. I know you saw the freshwell app which is helpful. I have previously posted an nhs site in the New Forest which helpfully on left hand side has links to websites with low carb food including Freshwell, Moseley and Caldesi. The Caldesi food is much lower carb than I am eating but I am on an SGLT2 so very low carb not appropriate. The dog walking will help. I go to an exercise class in a swimming pool. So far I've lost 2 and half stone. I would like to lose one to one and half stone more.
I suspect you are not now heavy enough to be considered for weight loss drugs. Lots of people on the forum have been prescribed the drugs on NHS others have obtained privately. Look at their posts as to how it has worked for them. Given your other health conditions and the food noise the GP may agree. If not try aquafit and moseley or caldesi.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear you didn’t have success with the Path to Remission programme - sounds like you didn’t have much support with it? :(

Discussing a new med like with Mounjaro with your GP sounds like a very good option. Shame it’s so difficult to get an appointment! Could you try to have a chat with the qualified pharmacist at your High St pharmacy. Many have a little consulting room, and they may be easier to get a chat with than an overstretched GP?

Ì have just remembered I went to Tesco earlier this week and bought " Food noise" by Jack Moseley ( son of Michael).I hadn't realised that it is aimed at people reducing processed food in their diet and considering weight loss jabs. I got busy this week so have only glanced through it. It's not as diabetes friendly as I hoped but I will when I have some quiet time read through it. It goes through how to use the drugs, how to stay nourished and how to look after your muscles. I'm sure I can get some benefit from it. It is a bit pricy £16.99 for a paperback. Some of the dishes in the meal plan are colour. I think i paid £14.99 in Tesco. I knew he had a new book but it was an impulse purchase and may be cheaper elsewhere or in the library or kindle. I am not considering the injections. I'm close to 11 stone and though as almost 14 stone this time last year I would have thought I was a lost cause low (130 gms) carb is still working at least 5 days a week 😉

Have now checked Amazon it is £9.00 - cheaper than ebook
