Hey everybody .. I received my diagnosis of type two at the beginning of august, I was feeling unwell with what I thought was an urine infection so went to out of hours gp at the local hospital and was then admitted to a ward and stayed for five days !!! Anyway on admittance my blood sugar was twenty six now with the help of metformin 1000mg and 80mg of glucosides daily I am usually eight or below .... my question to you is why do my blood sugars spike after breakfast ?? Even if I eat the same thing as the day before the bg level will fluctuate.... sorry if sound stupid but nobody explains things to you do they ???

Howdy, no not stupid. Lots of different factors alter blood sugar. Resistance is normally higher in the morning.

What are your pre and post readings.

What are you eating.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi
There are lots of variables that can affect our levels as well as the carb, protein and fat content of what we eat, such as the timing of the meal, what we ate the day before, how active we are, the temperature, time of the month (specially women), stress levels...
Were any of these different on the days when you spiked compared with those when you didn't?

Thank you I didn't realise that all those other things can affect bg levels. Now that you have said it I have noticed that on my days at work my levels are always lower ... I work in care and do twelve hour shifts mainly on my feet.... so it looks I should probably do more exercise on my days off not sure how I feel about that though .... lol xx

As for what am I eating well an example is as follows ... breakfast ... one shredded wheat with raspberries... lunch ... chicken with vegetables and two small potatoes or bolognaise made from scratch with small portion of whole-wheat pasta followed by a sugar free jelly x if hungry in between will have a handful of nuts or a pear x supper ... omelette and salad x
Bg levels before breakfast usually 5.5 after can range from 7.5 to 9 .... after lunch 6.7... after supper 6.7 to 7.7. ...when I came out of hospital my target which hasnt been changed was to get below 10 after eating...this took a few weeks to achieve !! I now weigh 68 KGS ... and sometimes feel deprived !!! Haha x

Hi Manda. Even going for a walk will help. If you head over to , useful links for people new to diabetes in the newbies say hello here forum, you will find lots of useful reading matter
How do you feel about a fry up ? as bacon, good quality sausages and eggs are fine for us, burgers aren't bad either, cheese is fine , if you like it peanut butter is ok I prefer meridian peanut butter, it's made with roasted peanuts, a little salt and peanut oil , you do have to give it a stir.
Have a look on the carb queries and recipe section, you'll find some good ideas there.

Hi Manda

You sound as though you're on message and on track for holding this thing in check. Sorry to hear that you're feeling deprived...it's a feeling I know well. However, it diminishes as time goes by. Honestly 🙂
