I’m type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure and high chlorestral although with medication also taking naproxen and separate aspirin . I’m a key worker and my job involves me transporting the public .
Would You go to work .im worried that social distancing is very difficult . Would you exclude yourself? Advice please ?

I can totally understand your concerns. Unfortunately they're millions in the same predicament, and as a society we all have to do our best. If it was me I would still go to work, if you are at serious risk the authorities would inform you. But its your health, and no one knows you like you do. Just be careful regarding pay as your employer may refuse to pay you if you decide to isolate.

Hi @Colinb1963 – welcome to the forum. It's really tricky isn't it?! There's no easy answer. As a key worker, you've been identified as very much needed (and valued) within society but I completely understand your concerns about your own health. None of us want to get ill.

Has your work made any changes for your protection? Is there any kind of compromise you can come to with your employer, or ways you can see that will help the current situation?

I think you will have to weigh it all up, and make a decision as best you can, all things considered.

Hello @Colinb1963 welcome to the forum, difficult decision that only you can make if it was me I`d go in. I`m not you so its only an opinion whatever decision you make I believe you will have the support of the forum, it may pay to talk with someone senior about your concerns I`m sure you not the only one.

As others have said the decision has to be yours. There are many in your position and they have been required to continue working. Whilst you are working it is important to monitor how they can ensure that you are able to social distance.

The official advice is to keep to social distancing guidelines as fully and completely as you can, but obviously this is very difficult in your particular work.

The .gov guidelines are necessarily ‘broad brush’ and have to cover a very wide variety of circumstances. Perhaps you could try for a phone appointment with your GP to discuss your individual case?

My understanding is that with diabetes you are at no greater risk of catching the virus, and (particularly if your diabetes is well managed) you are at the same, fairly low risk, of having a severe case. It’s just that if you did have a severe case, diabetes would be an unwelcome complicating factor that would make that much riskier than for a person without diabetes.

Thanks for all your advice , I have been off work but feellike I’m letting the side down as my colleagues are still working .so I am gonna pluck up the courage and return to work next week I think . I have my own PPE now and it will help I want to go in .
