Hi
Was diagnosed about 10 months ago a have reduced my sugar count from 93 to 50, so I am not doing to badly but I am getting confused with packet labelling. So far I have been looking at the amount of individual sugars and trying to keep below the magic number 5. However, I have noticed that some foods are low in the 'sugar' breakdown but actually have high overall carb ratings. Which do I look at?

P.S can anyone help on the subject of peas I keep reading conflicting views on how good they are for diabetics?

It's the total carbs you need to count/ be aware of 🙂 Peas are a lovely veg enjoy them everything is fine in moderation and you know your limits 🙂

Hi Poppy, you need to consider the total carbs, not the sugars. A high sugar content may suggest that the food will hit your levels quickly, but other foods that are low in sugar can also do this - white bread, for example. So, be guided by the total carb content and use testing to determine the effect of the food choice on your levels, as described in Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S 🙂 Well done on your great improvement! 🙂

Thanks for the advice, I have been looking too much at the sugars, I will need a little rethink. My ultimate goal is to get down to a stable acceptable level and then to come off some of my medication but I have a while to go yet I think.
