Confused & angry with my Gp.
I rang for my HBA1C results today also cholestrol ect.
He tells me i need statins cos my cholestrol was high he said it was just over 5 but cos i'm diabetic he feels the need to put me on statins
I said if i was non-diabetic would i need meds he replied no it would be ok.
He also told me i need to be on a stricter diet than what i'm on....Jesus i can't reduce my intake of food any more than i have done, i have lost almost 2st in weight & my BGs are very good with readings not higher than 7.2 occasionaly..... I have had levels from 4.0 -6.8 most of the time.
He then said my sugars have been high have you had your A1C Blood tests yet we need one. huh my reply was well you sent me for the tests you ticked the boxes. His reply is... I tick lots of boxes my dear grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Have i had hese bloods done by looking at the boxes that was ticked below.
I am totally confused & angry right now.

These are the boxes that was ticked on my letter hope it helps.

Yes of course - its the HbA1c one!!! Time to sack the doctor just like I did last week. Don't just say yes to statins will you. I will plead ignorance here by the way so can only go by what I have been told by others. If you go on statins when you try for holiday insurance, they ask if you are on them and it is not good - this is word of mouth not personal experience. There were other things as well but as I say I don't really know and can't remember.

If you sugars are what you say they are then don't take any notice of the doctor. They are all pretty damn perfect. I wonder if he can say as a non diabetic that his levels are as good as this - bet he can't. Bet he eats sweets, chocolate etc and occasionlly he will go over the 7.0 as well. The levels you describe as the levels of a non diabetic so pat yourself on the back and well done, and doubly well done on losing 2 stone. Fab stuff. I would write the practice manager a letter asking what result was for the HbA1c was as your GP for some reason is not giving this out or write to the GP cc'ing the practice manager. Put these things in writing and you get more attention, believe me.

oh he sound like a right plonker, you have done really well loosing all that weight and your readings are superb!!

Dont let him upset you as you are doing so well, from the list it looks like you have had your hba1c, unfortunately he looks like one of the so called professionals that doesnt have a clue and try and hide it by being condescending. if i were you id go and see another gp.

you will find that most gps want to put diabetics on statins, i read somewhere they get bonuses for prescribing but i dont know how true that is. I do know however that they like diabetics cholestoral to be 4 or lower even though it is 5 in general population as we have more risk generally to heart disease, high blood pressure strokes etc, it is precautionary. my gp also wanted me on statins, i refused and my consultant backs me up on this. my cholestoral is not 4 but is under 5 at present. take care 🙂

Sweetsatin, be careful. If there is any possibility that you might want to become pregnant, statins are contraindicated. Some GPs do not appear to consider this.

This doctor is not doing his job properly. You have done everything and more to achieve excellent numbers, so well done from me (and I probably know more about diabetes than him as I have lived with it 24/7 for the past year!).

Grrrr! Is there another doctor you could see, who might be a better communicator if nothing else? Who do these people think they are, for goodness sake? 'I tick plenty of boxes dear' - condescending, patronising and ignorant in extremis!

Did he give you the split between good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol? He should if you fasted for the tests. We NEED cholesterol - we're not trying to get it down to zero - but it's the good stuff we need. If your HDL is relatively high and your LDL low then You're doing fine, I'd say. I'm obn statins, but thinking about coming off them - my total cholesterol last time was 2.4 on them, so they certainly work, but when I stopped them last year for a month it was still 3.7. Don't know what my split is though.

Hi everyone
Thank you for your input, at the moment i am still very upset & fuming.
There is no chance of me getting pregnant been there got gran kids, i'm a young granny rofl. No offence Hermit you made me laugh & gave me some good advice, thank you🙂
Tracy...Thanks but i would of called him a d***head on the phone but i need my test strips :D best part is i never see him anyway he just has to deliver my results as his name is on my medical card huh.
Will be reporting him anyway as this is not the first time iv'e had wrong advice from him & wrong script. He had the pc on in front of him but was too lazy to see what bloods i had taken.
Adrienne...would rather put him in the sack nooo not that sack... a sack to throw him away in 🙂
I shall fight my case i hate taking tablets as it is.
He had a nerve to ask if i was testing my BGs, my reply was i was told not to by my dsn lucky i ignored her lol of course i have, i know my readings, he made feel so stupid....Think your right time to sack the GP.
Thanks for the support everyone🙂

No just concerned about my cholesterol, I do see a different female doctor in the surgary ,whom has had diabetes while being pregnant & her whole family has diabetes too.
I have booked an appointment to see her next week.
Thank you for the possitive replies.
